Will a professional carpet cleaner get rid of car wee smell?

I am desperate! Our older cat has become super fussy about using the litter tray unless it is to her exacting standards which means she has taken to weeing on the carpet in the small bedroom (used as an office/laundry room). Because we are out at work all day and don't automatically go in that room daily, some puddles weren't dealt with straight away (once we realised what she was doing we were keeping a closer eye on things) but now the carpet STINKS. I have bought special spray that is supposed to break down the enzymes in cat urine and sprinkled on powders. I have cleaned it with our Vax. I have febreezed it to within an inch of its life and each time I think the smell has gone, it comes back once the nice smelling product has worn off. I am desperate. Wondering whether a professional carpet cleaner would work or if it's just best to bit the bullet and get a new carpet? Anyone had experience of carpet cleaning getting rid of really stubborn smells?

I think it's more likely that the urine has soaked through to the underlay/floorboards - no carpet cleaner will fix that.

In your shoes i'd rip the carpet up, clean the floorboards if necessary, then put lino down instead of carpet. I'd keep a big chunk of the old carpet though and maybe chuck in the washing machine and put back down in the middle of the floor...just in case it's the only place the cat will go. Better that than risking them starting somewhere else.

Yes, that was my worry too.
