Documents for dbs check

as my passport is not in date I am struggling with getting together all the documents I need. I have a driving licence, birth cert and marriage cert but all documents with my address on e.g. bank statement etc are paperless. Does anyone know if pdf copies are accepted? Or if I ask in my bank will they print off a statement? Don’t know if that will be considered not the original though?!

I downloaded a statement from the bank and had no issue using it

I feel your pain. The people who do the DBS checks wouldn't accept anything other than the original paperwork when DD needed hers. What happens with people who don't have driving licences and passports?

If you go on your online banking, there's usually an option that says something like "send me a paper statement". You request it and it arrives in the post a couple of days later.

This is what I did when I needed a DBS recently. You can also do this with Virgin Media.

Thanks for the replies. @Sirzydid you just show the pdf or print it off? From what I’ve read print offs aren’t accepted?

@DeliciouslyBakedive tried that, I’m with nationwide and you have to message the chat bot and it’s not very helpful, just says you can change to paperless?

With Lloyds, you can order a paper statement from a cashpoint (one of the proper ones from outside the banks, not the little ones in shops). Could this be an option?

Banks can usually stamp and sign print-offs they create, which are usually accepted.

Payslips often have your address on them.

Same thing with me. I had to ask my bank for paper bank statements from last year. Luckily, my gas and electric bill fell into the two month timeframe so I was able to use the PDF of that.

helpfulperson · 30/10/2025 07:20

who is the DBS for? in some case the organisation can send you a letter that you then bring in. It is basically just be show that you can get mail sent to that address. We do that as a council for ID sometimes.

Beautyfadesdumbisforever · 30/10/2025 07:24

A Council tax bill counts, they haven’t gone paperless yet.

LIZS · 30/10/2025 07:28

You can order a paper statement. Otherwise an official letter from hmrc, nhs, pension provider, p60/p45, utility company etc would count.

TheNightingalesStarling · 30/10/2025 07:35

Its been acouple of years since my last one, but doesn't driving license cover the address requirements?

I think it would be the photo ID in this case, meaning it cannot also be the address ID

Edited

They used to have to purchase a provisional driving licence - that was an accepted form of photo ID.

DD just has a provisional licence so that she can prove she is over 18. She is 25 but looks about 15.

She can use it for more than one thing though. She can use it to prove she is over 18 and she can also use it as proof in a DBS application.

If you don’t have a council tax bill you can go into council office they will write you a letter confirming you’ve been thst address for however long you’ve been paying council tax. I suspect you can call but I went in and got one there and then as time was short. It happens a lot now paperless is a thing.

mumof1littlebun · 30/10/2025 08:12

@Beautyfadesdumbisforeverour council tax statements are paperless. I have requested a paper one but don’t know how long it will take to arrive

She did.
As a student she doesn't have a council tax bill because it is in our name, and everything else is now paperless.

She did get is sorted in the end.
