Cataracts - how to choose lenses?

Confused and terrified as not sure how to choose lenses.
Currently about -2 and not needing glasses for reading/writing/crafting/phone but driving (wearing existing glasses) especially at night or generally walking in poor light is becoming fuzzy. Also get a ring around some lights in one eye ☹️

Was told if I go for distance I would need reading glasses which might mean a lifestyle change ☹️

I wish there was a gadget to try how different lens s would feel ☹️. Any advice how to choose?

Anyone went for EDOF lenses? How do they feel in practice?

@AgentPidge do u wear glasses for TV, walking in the street, seeing under your feet, train timetable displays or can u get by without?

I like being able to use my phone/computer/book without glasses
Yes, I think I would be annoyed to suddenly start using glasses for near vision. I suppose u had a slight advantage of your DIL opinion but I was surprised my NHS appointment didn't go through it in any detail, they literally wanted me to decide and sign on the spot 🤔

I will need to explore whether NHS can do different distance in either eye...after a bit of a trial with contacts.

@YogaLite Yes, I have to use glasses or contacts for all those things. But I do love the fact that I can do near-sighted (including the computer) without. And for the first time In my life I can drive with only glasses on - my peripheral vision was so bad before with my glasses that I had to put my contacts in for driving.

Re deciding on the spot - yes, you don't get much consultation with the NHS! The guy I spoke to said that "most" people opt for long-distance lenses. I'm glad I disregarded that advice (after speaking to DIL). But things will doubtless be different for you because your prescription is different from what mine was. I tried bifocals, for example, before my op, and hated them. Maybe you could discuss the possibilities with your optician?

@AgentPidge yes, that's pretty much what I have been told too, it just felt very rushed and no advice really. I think they were miffed I didn't sign the consent on the spot 🤔
