I have been very disorganised and forgetful and have totally forgotten it's my friends sons 6th birthday. I'm seeing her briefly tomorrow morning so need to get a gift for him today.
We don't get to see each other much due to distance so I don't know if he's still obsessed with Paw Patrol or if he's moved on to something else. Ahhh!!!

This friend is always great at choosing lovely gifts my son likes and never forgets, so I really don't want to show up with a voucher. I'd rather give an item with a gift receipt.

My budget is around £30 and I have access to Smyths and Argos (or Amazon same day if I'm lucky).

Playmobil or lego

OneAndDon3 · 29/10/2025 09:24

Lego is always a great option.

Slime making kits well go down well with the kids but not so much with the parents.

Bunny Vs Monkey books are a winner as are the Barb the Brave books.

Box of Lego.
Get one of the "Classic" sets or "Creator 3 in 1" as you don't know if he is into specific characters/themes.

Another vote for Lego.

LaserPumpkin · 29/10/2025 09:38

Definitely Lego and another vote for one of the 3 in 1 kits

Lego or hot wheels seem to be pretty safe bets for the 5-6 year old boys in my son's class.

PocketsAndSedition · 29/10/2025 09:45

Given your budget is quite generous I'd suggest a Lego missions set. Instead of the traditional instructions booklet there is a mission story on an app and the child comes up with their own building solution from the pieces given to solve challenges they encounter in the story.

Edited

I don't think you can get those anymore.

Well it looks like I definitely can't go wrong with Lego, which is great as my local Smyths seems to double us a Lego Land. Thanks All!

Definitely Lego. Recommend Ninjago or Minecraft as a safe bet. Pokemon is also a pretty good option if you have some £ spare after buying a set of Lego.

Minecraft anything. Lego or hot wheels

Oh this is great! I've no kids myself and my great nephew is six. Completely stumped and was thinking of one of those instagram camera things that print pics. Only thing is they are in bright neon colours and they look cheap (Smyths).

I could ask his mum, (my niece) but I feel like an idiot when I do that, so I'll have a look at the lego mentioned. In fact I saw the minecraft one recently, but for some reason thought minecraft was off the table for being a video game. I must be raving!

The dotty Grand Aunt ha ha, but means well!

waitamo · 29/10/2025 17:18

No, not instagram camera, more like Polaroid. Jeez what am I like!

Oh that's a shame, they were a great idea!

Minecraft Anything
Pokemon

my son is 8 and still loves both - so those toys have had some great longevity.
