Half Term Realisation

I love the school holidays in the sense I can spend time with DD (4) but I always stress about the cost of keeping her entertained with days out.

However, this half term, we're spending a lot of it at home in our PJs, watching TV, reading, crafts etc and she's loving it!

It's made me realise that children don't need expensive days out everyday as I've been made to believe by friends and social media.

I hope this helps anybody who is getting mum guilt 🙂

Places like libraries, art galleries and museums often have craft activities at half term and they will be free.

I totally agree with you. My children are older, 11 and 16 but we have no days out or expensive plans either. 16 ds does his own stuff and is working a couple of days. So it's just 11 year old dd to sort.

Yesterday she went to a friend's for about 5 hours, today she is going to carve a pumpkin and we might play a board game. Not sure about tomorrow yet but will just be at home. Thursday going to a local town for shopping(mostly just food and stuff we need) and I'll treat her to a Maccy ds. Friday she is meeting up with friends and going trick or treating In the evening and then Saturday we will watch local lantern parade and fireworks in the evening. So not much in the day.

I'm not feeling guilty for not going out somewhere and spending best part of £100 on a day out. Weather is unsettled this week too. Enjoy the fun activities at home! as we will too.

That is true 😊 but unfortunately, they're ticketed where I live and usually have very limited spaces.

Your week sounds very well planned out. I love the idea of a lantern parade 😊

Pumpkin picking is very big here but the prices are extortionate 🙈

It's been a local event for what seems like forever here. Last year it wasn't on due to money, so glad it's back this year. DD does take part in it some years but isn't this time.

We just bought a pumpkin from the supermarket. I did think about going to a pumpkin farm but couldn't be bothered lol.

Where are you @DriveVerySlowlyPastNumber23IWantThemToSeeMyHat

Where are you based? Museums
and libraries and parks are generally free.

I survived many half terms on the free things that PP mentioned.

Also home based projects are good. This half term we have done room re-organisation, wardrobe tidy, patio jet wash, gardening (in our garden area) and a bunch of admin tasks that involve walking to the high street and back (once rewarded with a cafe visit) but the point is extending the task!

Baking?

Batch cooking together?

Board games?

This is all I could offer my girls this half term but it has been a lot of fun.

Edited for typos.

Totally depends on your children. Yours might be fine with that but mine would be absolutely feral without daily outdoor exercise and entertainment.

I think the one advantage of what's been a very long term is that it's mine are quite tired. As long as we can go out for at least a walk every day we are managing with keeping it simple.
