Electric shock from toaster

Just that. Don't know why I put my finger in. There was quite a loud 'phut'. It still works. I feel okay but the tip end of my finger feels a little like I squashed it in the door. Quite tingly.

Anyone had one of these?

No because I've never stuck my finger into a toaster.

MigGirl · 27/10/2025 12:25

No I haven't actually had a shock as always unplug it if I need to clean it. It does trip the electric sockets sometimes if a raison gets stuck in it. Did your breaker not trip?

Branster · 27/10/2025 12:25

I don't think anyone does this OP. it is a well known fact you never touch the inside of a toaster. You would get electrocuted.
I have no idea what the first aid procedure for electrocution is.

I'm surprised your finger wasn't burnt? I think I did stick a knife or something metal in there to unstick a bit of bread and it shorted the electrics in the whole house, when I was about 17. My mum used to do it regularly?! She now uses a wooden spatula to retrieve things!

About 9 years ago when I was pregnant with my DS I'd borrowed my friends lawnmower.

I plugged it into the plug socket and it shocked me immediately. I felt it all throughout my body

I was fine and DS is almost 9 now and he seems okay 😅

Thanks for the posters stating the obvious :) I don't know why I did it. I got distracted as there was some bread in it already then my bread slipped so I stupidly pushed it down to get it. Not realising that turned it on.

Mainly was wondering if I need to do anything. The Internet is a bit vague. May give it a couple of hours and call 111.

You'll be fine, won't have done yourself any permanent damage. The tingling should subside in a couple of hours.

EBearhug · 27/10/2025 14:17

You should be fine. No loss of consciousness, I'm assuming no visible burn marks except possibly redddened finger. You shouldn't need medical attention.

I am puzzled why you put your finger in the toaster, though.
