Earache in New York

I am in New York at a work conference. I have agonising earache. Could anyone knowledgable help me work out where to go to be seen? I’m finding the google results overwhelming.

I am insured through work but would rather avoid having to sort all that. What is an appointment likely to cost if it is just a simple ear infection needing antibiotics? Can I just pay?

Ask the concierge at your hotel. I was directed to New York Presbyterian Hospital . It is essential for you to get it seen to if you intend to fly hone soon .

If you have insurance it will be easy - keep receipts etc any copies of any forms
thats why you have it

ask the hotel reception to direct you to a hospital where you can see a doctor and take it form there
ear pain etc will be horrible on a flight so get it sorted now

Yes this flying with an ear ache is horrific, ive just flown with a cold and the pain on descent was the worst. .or can you go to an online dr and get a prescription sent to you.

Thanks everyone, I didn’t think of the concierge.

Just call the travel insurance company for advice. That’s what it is for.

You need to go to a CityMD or other “urgent care” provider. They’re an office of basically GPs on many high streets. If you’re in Manhattan you won’t have to travel far. They’ll send a script (prescription) to a nearby pharmacy for your antibiotics. It will cost a fair whack out of pocket but keep all your receipts. You won’t have to wait long at all to be seen - go early and you won’t have to wait at all.

Do you have a CVS pharmacy close by? You may be able to purchase OTC meds for the ear ache without having to see a doctor.

if you’ve had recent flight - you may be risk of perforated ear drum -
I would advise getting a medic to check your ear - use the insurance !

Definitely see a doctor, dont just get OTC meds.

Presumably the insurance will cover but an urgent care clinic cost me 150usd plus the prescription. (Was short on time so just went to nearest one that had appointment, don't recall if insurance reimbursed me.)
