Flu jab this winter

Morning.
I went to my local Boots yesterday and asked about a flu jab, but they didn’t have any available appointments until the end of November. Where is the best place to get one?

You'd need to just ring around your local area. I think supadrug, Day Lewis and many other pharmacies provide it. If you have a superdrug card its only £9.95 there.

Pretty much all pharmacies offer flu jabs.

You can book online at Well pharmacy which is where I got mine.

IME independent/ small chain pharmacies are usually very good and many offer a walk in service.

All pharmacies including supermarket pharmacies do flu jabs.

Goshmoments · 26/10/2025 18:12

Thank you all.

I had never considered going to supermarkets for a jab, and I will check online for nearby pharmacies. My last jab was a few years ago at my GP surgery.
Thanks xx

OP- Another thing to consider:

-Do you qualify for one on the NHS via your GP surgery?
-Does your work offer vouchers to get a flu vaccine, or have a nurse come to the office to give them to staff? My old company did this and for those not working that day, were given a voucher to use at a high street pharmacy.

You need to go to the NHS site for flu jabs put in your name etc and post code and it brings up a choice of where you can get it.

Do you qualify on age or medical conditions?

Whatshesaid96 · 26/10/2025 19:25

Do you qualify? You might have to pay if not.

I do as a household contact of someone who is immunosuppressed. However my GP surgery don't offer it to me as they do clinics for covid alongside the flu which the former I'm not eligible for. I get mine done at Boots on my only day off from work (I search online with their postcode finder). I also book mine at the end of August as soon as they release the dates for autumn. I had it done earlier this month actually earlier than the immunosuppressed person did, just a thought for next year to get in as early as possible.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. Helpful info..

I have found a pharmacy that usually performs blood tests and now offers flu vaccinations and travel vaccinations as well. I am booked for an appointment next week!
I must admit, I go online for shopping and social activities, but not the NHS website. When I do have health problems, I usually visit my GP surgery in person. Well, first stop is the website now. Thanks.

I previously took medication for my autoimmune disease and carried a card. At that time, my specialist did not discuss or recommend getting vaccinated during the winter months, which is an obvious time when bugs tend to appear!

Glad you've updated us. That was good to get one so quickly. Yes the NHS website isn't actually that bad. I tend to use the app (recommend this) for econsults with our GP and to see my medical history. It's also handy for finding out the opening times of your local minor injuries unit too.

@Goshmoments You will have to pay unless you're over 65 or have medical conditions. It's about £15 usually.

Sunnydayj · 29/10/2025 10:40

The age for a free NHS flu jab is now 50, not 65. Was told this when I had mine at the GP surgery as I was surprised I qualified (under 65)

Edited to add: I've just googled it and this doesn't appear to be true in every area??NHS pages still say over 65.

@Sunnydayj It's 65. I had a letter from the NHS saying this 'If you are 65 or over or qualify with these health conditions...'

The letter was late as I'd had my jab 4 weeks before!

Goshmoments · 30/10/2025 20:08

Hi all.
My pharmacist told me the flu jab will cost me £15-£20.

I’m in my 50s and have checked my area. Yes, it's only for people aged 65 and over, high-risk groups, carers, and those working in healthcare.

I've got a cold, so I'm resting. I'm having Lemsip and catching up on TV tonight.
A lot to catch up.
