How do I find out if my ex has lost his driving licence? Implications for the children IMO

So ex has suddenly stopped driving. It was a ‘bad back’, then between cars, then MOT was due etc etc.
He lives a 7 hour drive away (his choice) so you can imagine the public transport logistics.
His parents are ferrying him about locally when he is down here to collect the children.
He is also dragging them
up to his on 3 trains plus lifts and down again.
if he was genuinely between cars it would surely be cheaper to hire a car for a month rather than all that money and hassle on trains with 3 kids plus bag s etc.
how can i find out of he's banned? because to me if he has been it’s either drink/drug driving or significant speeding offences. In my experience no one is caught the first time they do those things so it’s a safeguarding issue for my children that needs to be considered if or when he gets his licence back.

@Bikechicnow i dont know his licence number but that’s a useful link, thank you

I haven’t looked at the link but dd had to provide a licence check for a job but only the driver can set it up and then they get a code which you can give to someone who you want to know. You can’t just look at anyone’s licence.

As far as I know.

I don’t think it would be cheaper. A hire car that can fit 3 children in the back seat is going to be a minimum of £100/day once you add in liability insurance and car seat rentals. For a month that would be £3,000

This website lets you check and share your own license info by inputting the sort of information that the other parent of your children might just happen to know 😉

View or share your driving licence information

Find out what information DVLA holds about your driving licence or create a check code to share your driving record, for example to hire a car

Also, you can self-ban for medical reasons without ever having driven dangerously. You don’t know why he stopped driving. It could actually be the truth that his “bad back” is preventing him from driving until it’s better:

Spinal conditions, injuries or spinal surgery and driving

You must tell DVLA if you have spinal problems or injuries that affect your ability to drive - download the correct form to let them know

the youngest one told me about a year ago that ‘daddy was driving with the numbers at 90 for a long time. it was really fast’ - out of the mouth of babes! i told him that he wouldn’t be taking them in a car again if he drove like that again.

Was the child looking at the kph or the mph part of the speedometer?
90kph is 55mph….

If he had been going at 90mph for a long time, there would have been a speeding ticket.

Bit of a stretch (and a risk) but can you find an excuse to lend him your car (if you have one). Then you’d need his licence details for insurance purposes.

it’s a digital speedometer and its mph. speeding tickets only occur if the police pull you over or you activated a speed camera. he wasnt pulled over as the children would have told me but if he received a ticket from a camera, i would have no idea.

there’s a court ordered safety plan in place due to assaults on me at handover. he’s not allowed near me and is only allowed out the car to strap the children into car seats and put bags in the boot. he’s not even allowed to park on my drive.
