Tmi- itchy fanjo

Newstartplease24 · 25/10/2025 19:01

Hi, I’m 53 and just through menopause. My fanjo is itching / sore and canesten for thrush isn’t helping. I think I have some other kind of dermatitis. No chance of stds. Is there a sort of general fanjo soothing cream available over the counter? Any recos? Dont say see a Dr, let’s be realistic

You should see a doctor. The most common thing that causes itching other than thrush is Lichen Planus. Most women don’t know they have it.

Other thing to consider, have they given you oestrogen cream? Apparently HRT generally doesn’t reach all the parts that needs it.

MaxandMeg · 25/10/2025 19:06

Lichen sclerosis, I bet

SilverBlue56 · 25/10/2025 19:06

Make an appointment but while you wait, buy some vaginal oestrogen cream over the counter.

Is it vagina or vulva (or both)? Not sure what “fanjo’ actually covers, even though I have heard it a million times!

Thrush cream doesn’t work for me either so it could still be a yeast infection. You might need a prescription cream and an oral tablet (which you can buy OTC in the UK). Can you do a home test?

Could be guttate psoriasis, especially if you have any itchy rashes elsewhere or have recently had a virus. I itched so much that I was being woken by it at night.

Saw GP, given cream (I think) and certainly moisturiser. Sorted it v quickly and it has not come back - it's been > a year.

Estriol cream worth trying

This, I was itching for years. Finally got the courage to ask for help 2 years ago. Now cream once a week and it's controlled.

TheRosesAreInBloom · 25/10/2025 19:44

I found Eurax cream a lifesaver

That helps me. It happens at night, bedtime. I've tried washing before bed cold flannel. One night noticed my Simple wipes for makeup removal. So tried those. It worked. So I use those now at bedtime.

estriol cream - life saver

cupfinalchaos · 25/10/2025 20:08

Nothing to add I’m sorry but just so frustrated with all this self diagnosis as impossible to see a doctor nowadays. Sorry rant over.

Rachel2409 · 25/10/2025 20:12

Try Balance Active Intimate Soothing Cream and/or Vagisal. It will most likely be hormonal. The balance active do great products.

Newstartplease24 · 26/10/2025 06:39

Thanks everyone.
@cupfinalchaos i could not agree more. So so sick to death of it.
vulva or vagina? - vulva. Front. Skin feels tight and sore as well as itchy
pretty sure it’s a job for some cream or other but I worry that the wrong one make it worse. I’ve put an eye wateringly expensive order in at boots online

ill just have to try everything and see what works. As I am an idiot will probably try at least two, maybe three or four things at the same time
have been trying to ignore this for a few weeks now. Started much more mildly

Appreciate the support, people. Makes me feel less insane. So busy and tired . and it makes me feel lonely and mental asking Claude intimate health questions at 3am when the fancy patronising bastard always thinks you should go to a Dr and have expensive tests you would never get in a million years even if you got an appointment

Fucking hell. Vagisil medicated has perfume in it. The absolute fucking BASTARDS

I am so furious right now

Firstly, try hydrocortisone 1% applied thinly right where it itches just for few days. You can buy it over the counter. It's a mild steroid and will reduce itching and swelling quickly.

If you can't see your GP to get a prescription get some vaginal oestrogen cream or pessaries at the chemist.

Women our age usually need vaginal oestrogen to avoid discomfort - oh, the blessings of getting older! - but it sounds like you need to sort out the irritation first.

If those two things don't help, consider lichen sclerosis but you'll need to see the doctor for that.
