Mouse in my bedroom Right now. Any tips?

The (indoor) cat just ventured into the garage, nabbed a mouse and ran upstairs to sit in my bed with it.

Wee beastie is now under my bed. It's tiny.

Don't want to let the cats in to feast on it although they're outside the door

Any tips on how to catch it?

Poor little thing must be terrified. I’d shut the door so you-know-who can’t get in and then leave some seeds or dry cat food out, catch it with a glass over it and put it safely outside.

My old cat was a bugger for bringing in unharmed mice and shrews. They’re bloody fast and impossible to catch with just your hands.

I had an large mug that I allocated as the “mouse mug”. Pop the mug over the mouse, then slide a piece of cardboard under the mug. Carefully pick it up and turn the mug upright with the cardboard still over it. Exit the house and walk 20 miles (possibly a slight exaggeration) and then release the mouse.

Rinse and repeat every time the little git did it again 😻

I'm recruiting children to assist. My teen ds is eating his way through the kitchen and will arrive to be the 'wielder of big pot' person shortly

Cats are scratching at the door, with increasing urgency. And meowing

We used to use a waste paper bin and a lego board.

Good luck

FuzzyWolf · 25/10/2025 18:43

Put out some food and see if you can entice it out.

It will probably die regardless if you release it outside, so make sure you return it back to the garage.

They like to run round the perimeters of rooms.

Place a large ish Tupperware or shoebox at one side of the bed next to the wall. Put something in for mousie to hide behind so he wants to stay in the box. like socks or cotton wool or something he will hunker down under and not continue running.

one of you scare him into the box from the other side of the bed. The other sits just past the shoebox so he won’t overshoot it but go straight in it to hide.

if you don’t have help create a fake wall bext to the box with a4 books standing up or a coffee table Im it’s side. Something to stop him running away past the shoebox.

catch mouse in shoebox

put lid on box and remove him to release far ish away if you can.

clean up mouse crap from under bed.

release cats to enjoy sniffing under bed.

We use a takeaway container to trap it, as if it were a (bigger, faster, noisier) spider. The plastic type so that if you accidentally trap its tail then it’ll be hurt less than if it were glass!
Good luck x

In there teens my brother's simply grabbed one and chucked it out

KylieKangaroo · 25/10/2025 19:47

They are a lot harder to catch than you might think, I had one in my parents house and it took me a whole week to catch it. They can go so fast. I would get your cat back in there to catch it.

Scampuss · 25/10/2025 19:58

Set up a bucket trap: bucket with tasty snacks, ramp up to bucket, leave room, mouse will climb ramp, fall in bucket, eat food, and be unable to get out.

Hysterectomynext · 25/10/2025 20:11

Poor little baby. I would not rest until I had it back with its mum but I know I’m probably unusually sensitive. But I would catch as per above tips and hopefully find it’s family in the garage.

MouseInMyBedroom · 25/10/2025 20:24

Wee beastie captured (and yes @Hysterectomynext returned to the garage! In my defence, I have a very active cat crew patrolling the rest of the house)

We ended up moving my bed, mattress, bedside table, and armchair until wee beastie was coaxed into the empty bin.

The cats have been hugely interested in my room and there's at least two on guard at all times since they were allowed back in...

A Wellington boot on its side is an attractive hiding place for a mouse that's looking for somewhere safe.

minipie · 25/10/2025 21:00

Honestly we just used the cat 🤷‍♀️ but it was 3am.

tragichero · 25/10/2025 21:03

Well done! I used to sweep them into a rigid bag (like a gift bag or something. Sometimes they would run up my arm and I found it quite sweet!
Never got bitten.....

LesLavandes · 25/10/2025 22:18

Shoe box

TalulahJP · 26/10/2025 07:57

Well done. He looks like a cross between a house mouse (longer tail) and a field mouse (thicker fur). I love mice. My cats brought in lots but they never bit me when I rescued them.
