I am ranting about MY wooden spoons

Just having a rant...
I recently has a stay in hospital. I'm.back home, recuperating and getting back to household stuff.

DP and teens managed well without me. I'm now gradually getting back into household mode.

Just discovered I am missing 3 wooden spoons. They live in a jar of utensils next the cooker.

Asked DP and he said he binned them as the jar was too full and no-one needs more than 2 wooden spoons.

I have one for curry dishes, one for soup making, one small spoon,, one for baked beans/scrambled egg type stuff, 1 for baking. And 2 others of differing sizes for general cooking.

I am livid. They were causing no harm in the jar. I want my spoons.

Two belonged to my grandma (Fab cook). 2 I kinda collected from student days. Thats provably totally unhygeni c being old spoons,.but I dont care - they are good spoons. The smallest spoon is just a delight to use. One has a scorch mark on the handle from.some culinary disaster. They are well.established seasoned spoons.

He has form for this -- I went away with teens for a week once and he threw out some tupperware. And once he threw out the plastic carrier bags we re-use.

Apparently I am weird. But I don't care. I want MY spoons. I don't want new ones.

RIP wooden spoons - you've been faithful stirrers for many years.

I’d be really upset by this. I’m the kind of cook that eyeballs things, and I’d get thrown off my stride by having to stop and pick a different tool after years when there was a right one. I have one with a pointed corner that is perfect for making custard and I use to measure the cornflour, but if it was thrown away, i’d have to stop and choose a spatula or a whisk, and guess how much cornflour that was, and then relearn what the right texture is either a different implement, when I’ve never had to actively think about it for years. Cooking is more than reading instructions and following them. Half the time I don’t know what goes in things until I’m in the rhythm of making them.

And that’s not even considering the blatant disrespect. He’d be cooking all his own meals from now on, because I’d probably LTB even though I know that’s an over reaction (but is it?)

Are you my DP ?
Because they aren't your spoons to bin. You never bake. You cook when I'm not able out or I'm out.
I don't bin your screwdrivers

(Apologies, I'm ranting and you aren't likely to be my DP).

Edited

Oh, but you could bin his screwdrivers. After all, you only need 2 or 3, right?

LTB is on hold - I need him to drive me to the hospital for the next couple of weeks... but then........

I think YABU. Just buy some new ones. A jar of manky spoons and other utensils in the kitchen doesn’t look great.

I'm almost relieved you'd be livid too because my DP and teens think I'm being OTT because "it's only a few spoons, we can always buy some more tomorrow if you are so bothered.. " duh duh duh...

Chuck some of their stuff away and when they moan repeat that right back at them. My DH has form for this kind of shit. Completely sympathise 💐

hoarahloux · 25/10/2025 17:57

Wooden spoons are gross tbh. I only use silicone now. You can have some of my old spoons if you want.

AutumnCosy2025 · 25/10/2025 18:03

@Pancakeflipper

I'id be livid too. No one has the right to bin MY things. I'd be so upset.

Actually him being so disrespectful ! Uncaring WOULD make me consider LTB. He obviously has form but doesn't care enough about you to have Jeremy from it.

If they were bothering him while he was doing more if the cooking he could have just put them elsewhere.

Some other posters don't 'get it' but that doesn't mean you're over sensitive. Others of us DO get it 🤗

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 25/10/2025 18:03

I would bide my time, go to his toolbox and fuck with it. Hide a load of unnecessary screwdrivers or spanners and wait. The times my OH has thrown my stuff or threatened to throw my stuff I said I would collect up his selection of random car crap and it would be gone. The TVR picture that lives under the bed - gone. The stupid bloody alloy that’s attached to the garage wall from some random past relic of a car - down the landfill.

Don't be faceitious, your old spoons aren't laden with her life history.

'Manky'??? Why would her spoons be manky??

some of us are happier with 'meaning & history' and don't need new plastic things looking shiney & replaced every 5 minutes fir insta.

goldtrap · 25/10/2025 18:09

MN DHs have form for being spoony fuckers

childofthe607080s · 25/10/2025 18:15

I’d be in the bin

HarryVanderspeigle · 25/10/2025 19:16

I'd be packaging up all of his pants and hiding them. When he queries it tomorrow, you can tell him with a smile that no one needs more that one. I'd return them of course, just being petty to prove a point.

TonTonMacoute · 25/10/2025 19:29

Rant heard and understood.

I would be upset and livid and possibly homicidal in equal measure.
