Really disappointed at the quality of supermarket shoes

Specifically George at Asda. Kids went back to school in August, bought them all new shoes. The first pair a sort of patent leather lookalike boot fell apart in two weeks. Others took longer but not pair made it to the October holidays. I got myself a pair of trainers at the same time and it’s like the inside of the shoe has collapsed so it feels really thin underfoot. Perhaps they aren’t designed to walked in?

I’ve since replaced everyone’s shoes with other ones that hopefully have a bit more longevity.

I know they were cheap and possibly what should you expect from shoes in the £15 and under category. I’d expect at least 2-3 months though. Am I just unlucky or are supermarket generally short lived? I’ve had good experiences with Aldi before but none in yhe right size this year.

No idea why anyone would waste money on kids shoes ft a supermarket, go without yourself and buy your kids decent fitted shoes.

This.

Shoes are the one thing I find, doing cheaply does not work. Plus cheap shoes can damage your dcs' growing feet permanently. And plastic shoes ie fake leather, can provide the perfect breeding ground for athletes foot and other fungal infections because the fabric doesn't breathe. We've used leather for millennia for a reason.

Buy them proper fitted leather shoes or at the very least, decent quality running shoes that are designed to take a pounding, half a size larger to give growing room, and they will last a whole school year.

I’m pretty sure George stuff from Asda has a 100 day guarantee.

But that's still only 3 months so pretty rubbish. You'd need to buy three pairs to get through the school year. Still works out as £60 per child, might as well buy StartRites in the first place.

Multiple children, my dm rotated us through the year. Me at Easter, dsis in September and dbrother in January. Then it was less of a shock to the purse.

I'm not surprised. They wear their shoes all day every day. They walk, run, jump, skip, kick footballs.
Buy a pair of good quality fitted leather shoes, polish them every Sunday and they will last until your child grows out of them and still look good.

M&S did a pair of shoes my DS loved. He only needed one pair a year and he wore the same style the whole way through secondary school. My DD got a pair of DM shoes (without the yellow stitching as it wasn’t allowed at the time) when she was 13 and she still wears them today at age 19!

Ds had sainsburys ones that lasted the year and his current ones I got from next about 16 months ago ( he is now in secondary so feet have slowed down growing) but they are still going strong

i dont think you have a leg to stand on
as said, buy from Clarkes not asda for better quality longer lasting shoes

Just wanted to +1 the points about plastic shoes. I never had athletes foot or a fungal toe nail infection when I was growing up. All of my shoes, which my mother bought for me, were leather. When I started buying all of my own clothes, I bought cheap, plastic shoes for work. Out of nowhere I developed a really bad fungal infection on the one foot and it spread to my big toe. I had to have the tablets to get rid of it.

I started buying leather shoes for work after getting fed up of the plastic ones disintegrating. Haven’t had athletes foot or any other fungal foot problem for 15 years at least.

That’s interesting. I had wondered if all supermarkets would be equally bad or if some are doing a better job.

I had a pair of Sainsbury's chelsea boots that lasted for years and years. I suspect that the quality there is better than at Asda.

Dc Sainsbury shoes last until they grow out of them. Clark’s just fell apart … I can’t see the point of buying kids expensive clothes and from my few experiences of Clark’s a rip off.
