Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, in silence. Dd1's home again so fed the cats while getting ready for work, then boy cat came and snuggled up while I dozed until she left 15 minutes ago.

We don't have any plans today, I don't think. Dd1 is home until tomorrow, but working today, and dd2 was going to try and get all her half term homework done over the first couple of days of half term, so she has a proper break.

I need to change my train home for next weekend's visit to London for 2 gigs with dd1, list some things on Vinted, and make a start on my small list of peg dolls to paint for work. I also need to find some jewels and a tiara each for costumes for one of the gigs 🙈.

Other than that, it'll hopefully be a slow, moochy kind of day. I'll need to think about tea, and see what's in the freezer for tomorrow 🤔.

I'll probably head to bed rediculously early, so I can spend tomorrow pottering with dd1 about the house, before she heads back to London.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning.
Very grey and rainy here today.
Well, not much washing going on as my tumble dryer has gone caput 😬
Dh away with work until next week.
Dd1 gone to the hairdressers before meeting up with friends later this evening.
Dd2 is still in her room - I think she's having a day off college coursework today.
I've hoovered downstairs and turned the heat on!
I have no plans today, other than a shower and hair wash.
I need spring bulbs to plant, but can't be bothered to go out 😬

Thislittlekitten · 25/10/2025 11:47

Morning everyone.

Seems like a lot of us have had a tough week one way or another. I’m feeling not great either with the remains of a cold.

I took the dog out for a walk which was great. He had a good run. It’s very cold but sunny in NE Scotland where I am. My favourite time of year.

DH made everyone a cooked breakfast.

Today’s plans are a wee bit of shopping, visiting parents and DS is making a cake!

Strictly and pumpkin carving later.

goldenloafs · 25/10/2025 11:48

I've just been told that nobody is coming to fix our heating until sometime next week. It's freezing here and the house temp just keeps dropping every day we are without the boiler. We had been told last night someone would attend today but now who knows!

Now trying to decide what to do, make the best of it or see if hour insurance will put us up in a hotel. DH has health issues and cold temperatures can worsen his pain. He is currently round at his Mothers with the kids while I waited in vain for an engineer who was apparently never coming!

Peridot1 · 25/10/2025 11:51

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

A lot of you seem to be going through some stuff or ill so best wishes to all.

@strawgoh - wow! I hope it’s good and you don’t have to tell him it’s rubbish!

I have been up ages and had a few cups of tea and breakfast of Greek yogurt with blueberries and nuts and seeds. Have requested sausage sandwiches for lunch though… hoping DH starts them soon as I’m hungry.

Went out for a nice long walk. Very achy legs now after that and yesterday’s gym session. Just having a coffee.

I am about to strip a bed and wash bedding. Then this afternoon DH and I will be finishing (hopefully) painting the door and window frames on our new garden room. It’s been a mammoth task. Last session today.

No idea what’s for dinner - something with mince - and I think we have an episode of Celebrity Traitors to catch up on later.

mondaytosunday · 25/10/2025 11:53

Well I’ve already fallen at the first hurdle. I’ve been expecting a delivery of yarn ordered through Amazon in order to make something for my DD for Christmas. It has taken longer than I expected so tracked the package - oh what a surprise instead of Amazon delivery they sent it through Royal Mail. I have a ‘leave by the X’ on my Amazon delivery notes and think the same for RM but they routinely ignore it. So of course no note of delivery attempt, just on tracking it I realise they want me to collect it. Opening hours? 8-10am. What’s the point of ordering online for delivery if I now have to go to the distribution office, pay to park, to get my package? And of course I did not get up in time today.
So instead I might dye my hair, experiment making some cottage cheese flatbread for lunch, and continue the crochet project I started while waiting for the yarn to be delivered.
There’s always housework to do but I’m very good at procrastination.
Dinner will be chicken kiev.
@HelpMeGetThroughthey call it a reading week, which my DD needs to catch up with all the reading she missed while flat out with flu last week! Only missed two days of lectures though and made it to her seminars, even though she had no voice. Sadly no reading week for her, but she wouldn’t come home if she did - too far and too busy - so enjoy your time with your YP!
@strawgohhow exciting! I hope it’s a great book! Well done to him.
@DilemmaDelilahwrap yourself up and get your rest! A dear friend is post surgery too, though a lumpectomy. She’s going through a divorce and is supposed to have the house on the market but finds it impossible to do the needed decluttering and has decided to focus her energy on recovery. Your ornaments sound lovely.
@tragichero- a hero indeed! Fortunately my parents did not suffer from dementia but I’ve seen a dear friend go through it with her mum who was diagnosed in her early 60s. All the best to you.
Most everyone else seems to have so much energy- I feel with my last one at uni I lack motivation to get up and out, but am almost too content to stay at home. My house should be showroom condition but no - did not inherit the tidy gene from my mother.

DilemmaDelilah · 25/10/2025 12:09

@Zippidydoodah I have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation so I get frequent palpillatory episodes. They usually go after a few hours so I'm hoping this one will too. I certainly wouldn't go swimming feeling like this - I wouldn't actually be able to do it anyway! I'm due for a cardiology appointment in a couple of weeks and I'm hoping that now I have finished my one year of horrible cancer meds I can go onto something a bit more effective for my heart. I couldn't before because it was contraindicated with my cancer medication. I don't actually have cancer at the moment, by the way, at least as far as anyone knows.... this medication was to reduce the risk of it coming back. So I'm not as ill as it sounds 😁.

JudgeBread · 25/10/2025 12:14

Its husband's birthday today so we're having a relaxing one as we did a party of sorts yesterday and stayed up laaaate.

Got up at 10, mooched around in slippers with a brew for a bit, had eggs benny for breakfast. We've just put some clothes on as it's a gorgeous bright windy day so we're going for a walk. I've got beef short ribs in the slow cooker for dinner tonight, then we're having a games and movie night. We've got crackers and nice cheese to have with our games/movie and probably more wine than strictly necessary.

Aside from that the plan is to be as lazy as possible.

kittiker · 25/10/2025 12:20

Morning all.

Much love to the people having a tough time.
It's been a pleasant morning here, crisp and sunny, but definitely on the colder side. Bagels for breakfast then a sauna at a local beach. Managed to dip my bottom in the sea but couldn't convince my top half! Now having coffee and a cinnamon bun in the garden with a magazine. The boys are off to rugby but DS is autistic so it can either go really well or really, really badly! So it's always slightly fraught waiting to see which one it is.

Going to have another coffee and read a magazine for a bit then work through the to do list for an hour or so. Nothing much else planned. I might light the fire pit and have some mulled cider later and I'll try to fit in some Japanese study though I'm finding it really difficult just now. Might start a jigsaw or play one of the boardgames we haven't got round to yet. Or DS might insist on endless rounds of Hot Dog vrs Chicken, his current favourite. Just a chill afternoon and evening, hopefully. Chicken and rice soup for dinner with good bread and butter. The best!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 25/10/2025 12:22

Good afternoon @lucysmam & everyone. Not long back from the salon & my hair looks so much better! It had really been getting on my nerves & irritating my eyes, particularly as I think I have conjunctivitis in my right eye. I had a stylist I haven’t met before - she seemed pleasant but wasn’t the most talkative & I always feel more comfortable with chatty hairdressers. I sometimes go to the local college but they get very booked up. I didn’t do much before I left for my appointment so am now sorting out the laundry. Had to rewash a load as it had sat damp for too long & smelt like wet dog! It’s sunny here although I’m using the tumble dryer because we’re getting very heavy showers. Dishwasher needs doing. Hoping DH will oblige. He worked for a couple of hours this morning & goes out again mid afternoon. DD16 has been for a walk & also bought one of her GF’s Christmas presents online. I really want her to step up & clear the landing & top of the banisters of all her stuff. It’s getting more & more difficult to get into DH’s office. A lady should be coming round soon to collect my BatWoman outfit then I’ll be delivering a ring & a top. I’ll go to FarmFoods to get steakhouse chips & maybe Heinz tomato soup. Decluttering this afternoon then this evening, off to DM & DF’s to chat about their options as their current situation is becoming increasingly concerning. Probably have an early tea of battered sausages, chips & peas before I go & will catch up with Strictly when I get home. Have a good day all 🙂

Firstly, sorry I don't know how to quote only a section of your message on the app!

Secondly, thank you. Dementia is a cruel one. Have to say I have found lots of support, understanding and advice on Mumsnet, which is lovely!

Good to hear about everyone's days. Hope they all turn out well! It's lovely and sunny at least..

Twinkletoesmagee · 25/10/2025 12:52

Afternoon everyone.

So many posters from Scotland. I'm feeling a real pull at the moment; I have lots of family in Scotland and I'm craving cold air, space and water. Not really feasible to move but I keep scrolling Rightmove just in case!

Busy here today. Up at half seven doing jobs. DD 2 is going away on a residential for 5 days tomorrow and I'm going away with work for 5 days too so I've been prepping for that. Been to the gym, done the food shop, put a piece of brisket in the slow cooker for dinner and about to go and watch DS2 play hockey.

Will pack, give the house a once over and do the trimmings for dinner (roasties, cauliflower cheese, carrots, Yorkshire puds) when we get home. Need to try and get to bed at a reasonable hour as I need to leave the house around 4 tomorrow morning but I also need to shower and wash my hair.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

zingally · 25/10/2025 13:17

I was out by 7:15 to do the food shopping. Home to put that away, and then out again to go into town. I had a panini and a coffee in Costas, then a trip to Primark for some boring bits like pyjamas, bras and pants! I also found a nice little initialed bag that I think my DD will like, so that's getting put away for Christmas.
I also popped into Boots for my eye drops and some vitamins.

Home now, washing on and just pottering. I picked the last few tomatoes from my two plants, including a lot of green ones. I think it's getting too cold for them to do anything much else outside now, so I'll force them ripe indoors instead. Both plants did incredibly well though, producing over 300 cherry tomatoes each since early August.

I'm off out to the local theatre this evening, which should be good fun. But before then I need to go and wash my hair, and work out what to do for dinner, as I need to be ready to leave at about 6:30pm.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 25/10/2025 13:17

Did the weekly shop, two loads of washing on the line (very windy in the NW) and swept up a load of garden leaves. Lots more yet to fall though, I hate the garden this time of year! DH and DS1 are going to the driving range for an hour while I shall probably have a nap. Might go a walk on their return. Garlic chicken and rice for tea with apple strudel, strawberries and custard.
Going to York tomorrow to visit DS2 at uni there. It’s rare that we are all together so looking forward to that.

frozendaisy · 25/10/2025 13:22

Afternoon all,
think we are going to join the ran out of motivation crew
I have a relative pigsty as a kitchen, hopefully half hour with some music will get to past the worse of it

And the teens are camping in the front room as we started to clear their rooms for decoration yesterday, it all went tits up in the evening, and everything has ground to a halt, but am determined to get most of the prep done.

will have the usual adoptive teen here, homemade pizzas later

so much to do so little incentive!

CatchTheWind1920 · 25/10/2025 13:39

Hello all!

Have a lovely mooching day @lucysmam

I love reading these things...something very comforting about them.

DH has been away for work but is coming back in a few hours so it's just been me and my boys since Thursday. They are only 5 and nearly 3. We had breakfast around the table together then they played a little while I had my coffee. We then walked into town, went to the library read and played there, had some lunch outside, swung by the park and came home. Little one is now sleeping whilst the older one eats a snack and watches some TV. I have another coffee :) it was absolutely freezing outside today so dc1 and I have cosy blankets over us :D

I'm making a bolognese for dinner tonight. Not sure if we'll venture out again today or just stay home now... It's cold and raining and dark 😅 and I'd prefer to stay in!

Chelsea26 · 25/10/2025 13:46

Afternoon all! I hope those who are having it tough enjoy their restful Saturdays.

Just DP and I at home this weekend, we had a coffee in bed and then came down and I made Shakshuka for breakfast which was delicious, DP did some garden jobs while I tidied and cleaned the kitchen, our sheets are washed a dried now too. I do love a clean sheet night!

We’re thinking of going to the garden centre for some decorative stones for our front garden, and we’re meant to be doing jobs for our Halloween Party next weekend, however we are currently snuggled on the sofa!

I need to dye my hair later and then we’re going round to our friends for drinks before going to their local pub quiz. Should be fun!

lucysmam · 25/10/2025 13:52

Sorry to see so many are having tough times. Hopefully you all get some down time and peace 💐.

I've swapped my train for a slightly earlier one on the Sunday & went for a nap. Except boy cat went mountaineering around the bloody bedroom 🙄 ending up at the very top of a stack of crates for moving <sigh> so I got back up & am just waiting for dd2 to appear to nip for washing powder and loo rolls. Bloody cat!

I'm no further on my jewellery thief jewellery hunt - I've sent dd a link with two colour options so hopefully they're acceptable to her.

Once we get in, I'll pop some more washing on & watch an episode or two of The Rookie, with dd2, while I finish a started set of peg dolls & base coat the simplest of the requests. Oh and Vinted, I'll upload a few things there too!

I haven't thought about tea yet - veering rapidly towards takeaway I think!

Afternoon all, lovely to "see" you!

We have had a disaster, costly week with car, house and sickness issues so I was really hoping for a nice lay in..of course, I woke up at 6:45 😏
Had a cuppa and toast and made breakfast for DCs. Did doze off for a little while.
Currently sitting in absolute silence before an onslaught of most of my favourite children arrive for our Halloween party. I have total sensory overload already and feel very unorganised but best friends are on their way to support lend a hand. Will drop DC at their dad's after the party so I can tidy up and return my DMs decorations to her tomorrow in peace. And probably consume a vat of wine!

Rainbow1235 · 25/10/2025 17:22

Afternoon lucysmam and to u all . I’ve been quiet for a few weeks as not been feeling too great with anxiety and missing my parents . My mother died of dementia in July 2024 and dad sadly died may this year of cancer he only lived 6 weeks after being diagnosed. My dr has put me on anti depressants so hopefully they kick in soon . Sorry to drag u all down . Tonite is strictly with a few wines . Enjoy the rest of your day and night . Stay safe 🫶

Judellie · 25/10/2025 17:25

We did all the fun things yesterday (Metrocentre/haircut) and Thursday (church organised a coach for a pilgrimage which included a walk from Finchale Abbey to Durham Cathedral).
DD is now working 10 days in a row as she has 2 jobs; half term is different now they're grown up!
My head was itchy so I had a shower and washed it, despite only getting it cut yesterday. Wondering if it was the extra treatment they put on as it was fine before. Also changed my pillowcases.
Then I had scrambled egg and sausage with DH for breakfast; he had toast, I had mangetout, beetroot and onion with mine. I would have had mushrooms but I forget to buy any.
So then I went to Asda for a few bits -and because they had £5 off a £30 spend which I needed to use. Bought my daughter a hairband amongst other things. I still forgot the mushrooms!
DH had said he would organise the washing because of the free electricity between 12-3 but he completely forgot and DS ended up doing it before he went off out into town.
Paid a brief visit to my older friend and her partner Tony as hadn't seen them for ages; took them a pack of Christmas maltesers with reindeer etc in it as Tony wasn't well for his actual 90th so I'd only been able to give a card. Swapped books. Katie Fforde, my favourite so will be looking at that soon.
Hadn't really planned lunch, just had a tangerine, a banana, a small box of raisins and 2 dates but after I got back from my friends, DD had had a bath and was wondering what to have so we ended up having sausage, mash, carrots, peas and gravy because she's working 4-9.30 so needed a main meal.
So I won't be having any more food today.
Dropped DD off for her job and I'll be picking her up later. She works at a supermarket so I might go earlier and buy mushrooms!
DH has now gone for a lie down and is going out with his friend later and DS isn't back yet so on my own with a coffee now.
The day has been interspersed with moving washing on (hanging out, bringing in, putting away) and a white load is in now but that won't get out til tomorrow.
When I need to move again I will empty the dishwasher - that's Saturday night here!

JacknDiane · 25/10/2025 18:20

Hope you all had a lovely day

gingercat02 · 25/10/2025 18:49

Well my day changed a bit. My volunteering slot has moved to tomorrow so I decided to tackle the weedfest that is my garden.
DS decided on his way home from football, to have bolognaise from the freeze.and go out, so DH and I are have carbonara or risotto as he doesn't like them

CatchTheWind1920 · 26/10/2025 09:15

strawgoh · 25/10/2025 10:32

Morning everybody. So far I have been to the garden centre and bought a box of Christmas Crackers. I didn't go with that in mind at all, I went to look at plants but oh well. 😂I'm now on my second cup of coffee and contemplating the possibility of scrambled eggs on toast.

DH has sprung a complete surprise on me this morning and to say I'm taken aback is an understatement. He has announced that he's written a book and I had absolutely no idea. He has just handed me the first draft and asked me to read it, and has now gone out for a walk (so he can't see the look on my face apparently!). Here goes...

Have you read some of the book? I'm curious to hear how it is!

Yes I did, turns out he's only written the beginning, and it was good, I enjoyed it and when I got to the end of what he's done so far I wanted to carry on reading.

NormanSicily · 26/10/2025 10:46

Just about to head out with my mum and 2/3 DC for a bit of food shopping and a coffee somewhere. Third load of washing on the go and a lemon cake cooling on the side. DH and ds1 have gone gliding for the day. Chilled afternoon at home planned with some ironing thrown in.
Tea will be beany wraps, salad and mexican rice. Off to the pub later for a catch up with some mum friends. On the subject of books, am just finishing James by Percival Everett. It's brilliant.
