Setting up power of attorney

My mother wants to set up both a legal and health power of attorney. She wants us to do it ourselves. I’m a bit worried as I’ve been told people often make mistakes when setting them up and that this can lead to problems further down the line. Is this true? Has anyone out there made such mistakes? What were they?

Power of attorney is one of the legal things that is simple and safe to put in place yourself. Go on the gov.uk website.

We did our mums ourselves it was really easy no harder than a passport form really. Mum just had to sign with a witness we had a joint one with 3 of us just had to sign with a witness. They can choose whether they want to have the POA before loss of capacity that means you are allowed to do deal with things for them with their permission which can be helpful if dealing with finances or talking to Dr's on their behalf or they can have it so you only have POA when there is no capacity. If they are on guaranteed pention credit you do not have to pay.
