Staying in a hotel over Christmas

This will be a first for me, but due to various family commitments/holidays we have decided to spend a few days in London this year with our adult DC, including Christmas Day.

I know a lot of places will be closed, but any suggestions or advice welcome.

We’re actually looking forward to it. It’ll be such a change from the usual cosy and chaotic day at home!

I haven't done it since I was a child, but I can remember my mum doing those DIY crackers with more boujix things inside, because they are in a flat packet, easily done to make them up on arrival.

Things will be open on Christmas Eve (although most museums and galleries will be closed). Christmas Day will be quiet - no trains, not sure about buses but probably none. Sales start on Boxing Day so the West End will be heaving. Then back to normal with central London full of tourists clogging up Regent Street looking at the Christmas lights.

I think Christmas Eve evening and Christmas Day will be the only times it will feel quieter than usual in central London.

Will you need to eat in the hotel just before of after Xmas? Check the restaurant situation. Several years ago, l stayed somewhere, admittedly not in the UK but the same could apply, that was only offering a 5 course meal on Boxing Day night. I’d had a large lunch with friends and couldn’t do 5 courses. Neither did l want to pay that amount. But l did want something.
