Possible endometriosis and PMDD. Coil - is this the answer?

After years of heavy periods and constant iron tablets and being told to take ibuprofen I finally saw a lovely GP who has sent me for a scan, bloods and gynae referral.

Scan showed some free fluid in my pelvis, my womb and ovaries are immobile and my ovaries are stuck to the top of my uterus.

the gynae waitlist is 12 months so the GP suggested in the meantime that I get a mirena coil inserted.

she said it would likely stop my periods and also help with the intense mood swings I get for weeks 3 and 4 of my cycle.

hormonal contraceptive is not an option. I am 38, my family is complete, and honestly I am sick to death of being exhausted, miserable and snappy. Does anyone have any advice? Would you go for the coil?

The mirena coil is hormonal contraception.

Mirena coil stopped my periods and saved my sanity. I would say it is worth a try. Did take about 8 months to stop periods completely but they were a lot lighter immediately.

I take Cerrazette/Cerrelle which is progestogen only mini pill. No oestrogen . Stage 4 endometriosis.

I was put into chemical menopause at 32 then got pregnant shortly after. Periods were horrendous again thereafter and I've taken the mini pill ever since. I've had no pain, no bleeds and I'm 53ys old.

A lot of information here @TinkerbellStarbright

The Mirena coil was a total game changer for me. I have adenomyosis and every month had vomiting and diarrhoea, as well as heavy bleeding. The Mirena immediately lightened my periods and settled my associated bowel/stomach issues
I just wish that I'd done it years earlier.

Thank you for the replies so far!

I have a family history of breast cancer (mom, aunty, grandparent) and we had genetic testing for the brca gene which was negative however they advised me to avoid hormonal contraceptives. I feel a bit iffy about it. But I also don’t want to suffer anymore! I also have diarrhoea and extreme nausea with my period. Painful bowel movements. Cramping that goes down my legs. My periods are quite literally ruining my life
