Could anyone give advice please??
19 year old son has never had a uc account before. His summer job has just ended has interviews lined up in the field he has study in so has no income until he's secure another post. 2 days ago he opened his first uc account within a day he was sent a message in his journal saying he would have to move his orginal claim from one office which is 400 miles away to our local office by his appointee??
he called and explained he had never clamied before??
Uc then sent a message to say they had closed his ckaim as they had spoken to his appointee.. erm no he doesnt have an appointee and hes hasn't had an account before.
He had lost his driving license a few months back whilst on a night out 400 miles away.
How is someone able to use his details to open a uc account??

Could they have used his driving licence as identification?

Yeah, it sounds like he's been a victim of fraud.

It can be quite hard to unpick. I'd get your mp involved asap.

The fraudsters take loans from the DWP and your son will be on the hook for repaying them as far as the DWP is concerned

Someones made a uc account in his name. You need to report it as fraud.

You will need to help your son report the identity theft to the DWP - call the phone line to see if you can speak to a person.

Then he should make a police report through Action Fraud. He should also check his credit history through a reference agency like Experian or Equifax. The local Citizens Advice office may be able to help and be persistent to make sure it is cleared up.
