Do you feel your job/career defines you?

If yes, can you articulate why? Or if it doesn't, why do you think that way?

I've never had a career or profession as such, just jobs. I'm now mid 40's and at a crossroads and not sure where to go, so thought I'd try and get some thoughts and feelings from others on here.

I agree with @DontBuyANewMumCashmere @WonderingWanda and @FranksInvisibleLlama

If you have a career that is quite consuming, and perhaps particularly one where you can make a real difference in other people's lives, then it is a huge part of you. Just as being a parent is a huge part of you. For some people what you do in a volunteer role is a huge part of you.

I wouldn't use the word 'defines' myself, but I don't think you can ignore how much of your life it is.

No, and I’m pretty high up and well paid. It’s scary the amount of people who do though. I think if you’re going to have something else in your life which you love, then that’s much better.

Not at all. It’s a decent career and I do like what I do and it’s something suited to my strengths, but of the big things in my life, career is probably the least important to me.
