Barefoot Shoes

Has anyone tried these? Or children?
Looking for shoes my 12 year old can wear for school who's got sensory issues ( I believe)
Are they good?
Any recommendations where to buy from?

I like Merrell ones for kids. I also have a pair and i like them but they're not as thin soled as vivo barefoot (more expensive), which i love at the gym and now and then out of the gym. Looking to get a pair of boots now to add to the collection. Either buy direct/Amazon/happy little soles.

CopperWhite · 23/10/2025 18:36

I work with a few children who wear these and they appear to be well tolerated. No idea where their parents get them though.

SwankyPants · 23/10/2025 18:39

My autistic daughter loves them. We get them from Purestep

B greater shoes have been brilliant for my kids. Although I don’t know how big they make them

SnowSnow · 23/10/2025 18:43

Our little one hasn’t got big enough feet yet for the children’s ones but we as adults have found Saguaro very comfortable

UptoYou · 23/10/2025 18:54

I love Saguro barefoot shoes - one of the cheaper options but they are fantastic and my ASD son also loves them and steals them from me (same shoe size). Next pair of shoes I get for him will be Saguro

I couldn't find any school shoes in Merrell.

But wow Vivo ones are expensive aren't they

Think I'm going to order some

Do you go for normal size in them?

I’ve been fully in barefoot shoes for about 18 months now and have my little ones in barefoot friendly shoes too.
Barefoot Brit is a great resource on insta/fb and lots of reviews on her website.

My older ones school shoes are BGreater, bought on Vinted

HedgeWitchOfTheWest · 23/10/2025 19:07

I bought school shoes from www.bgreatershoes.com

And some from myself from www.happylittlesoles.co.uk

Older DS has hobibear shoes (minimalist rather than true barefoot) bought from Amazon because he’s growing and they’re cheap!

We’re fully converted to barefoot shoes. Wide toe boxes and flexible soles are awesome. I couldn’t go back to narrow shoes now.

We’re BGreater and our mission is to help kids’ feet develop naturally, with a range of affordable barefoot shoes.

Thr last two posters beat me to it 😂 barefootbrit on insta has lots of links to school shoes
And hobibear is great for reasonably priced barefoot...although some of their barefoot shoes on not 100% barefoot

purpleme12 · 23/10/2025 19:11

Thanks so much

I really hope these are the answer now!!
Bloody nightmare honestly

I wear vivos myself. School aged kid has two pairs of BGreater school shoes in use at any one time, one for indoors use (these stay at school) and one for outdoors. They're not as flexible and barefoot feeling as vivos bit they're smart for school, have the wide toe box and have lasted very well. I only need to replace when he moves up a size. I feel they're true to size, and would definitely recommend.

purpleme12 · 23/10/2025 19:17

Great will order some

Hope it works for her so bad

I wear vivobarefoot ones, although they are relatively narrow. My son wears Hobibear which are much wider (he wouldn't fit in Vivos) and my other son has had Merrell ones which he liked.

Splay are quite good too and I've been eyeing up Saguaro but they just look like they aren't food quality?!

I also still wear crocs (in a size too large) and regular fit Birkenstocks. And ugg slippers, but that's because they were expensive lol.

LamonicBibber1 · 23/10/2025 19:29

Posted too soon. They are good, but be prepared that your/your kids feet will actually physically change shape, and then you won't be able to wear normal shoes again! Mine went up a size as well.

My feet have never been so strong though, my hammer toes have slightly straightened. But yeah, I had to sell or give away all my normal shoes after a while. Just can't cope with the tightness! Normal shoe shaped shoes are definitely not true natural foot shaped ! Once you transition, you'll wonder how the hell you managed those narrow shoes in the before times lol.

purpleme12 · 23/10/2025 19:29

I couldn't see any school shoes in Merrell or hobibear

But good to hear the vote of confidence

Oh right so she won't be able to buy normal shoes again? 😟

How does it change your feet???

Not convinced about this. Both DCs wore barefoot as small children, but largely
wore school shoes from m&s and mainstream trainers now as teens.

How does it change your feet???

Once to give your feet space to spread your forefoot widens and your toes separate. It feels great! But then if you put ‘normal’ shoes on the tightness around your toes feels restrictive. That and the rigid soles can be unpleasant when you’re used to the flexibility and feeling of the ground under your feet.

Having said that, I do have normal shoes that I wear (riding boots, some vans MTE that have a nice wide toe boxes. I’ve got a pair of converse that come out for a few occasions but I couldn’t wear them often, too narrow now).
