My DH has just told me he’s bought basketball tickets from viagogo, the tickets aren’t on sale yet, does anyone know how viagogo works? Has he been scammed?

I've had several good experiences on viagogo. Tickets came through fine so I'd have faith in their systems, it's not scammy afaik.

But what do you mean by 'the tickets aren't on sale yet'? Do you mean that tickets for that event literally don't exist so can't possibly be available to public on viagogo or elsewhere? Or just that your DH hasn't got the tickets yet? If the latter, then that's normal - you get them in the run-up to the event usually. But if you mean the former then that does sound weird and needs looking into, although why he was buying tickets that couldn't exist yet needs checking also.

yeah the event isn’t on general sale yet, they have emailed him to say he’ll have the tickets in 72 hours, by which point the event will be on general sale… he was just desperate to secure tickets that’s why he bought from Viagogo

That sounds olike a scam if ever I heard one. How can he buy a ticket that isn't even on sale yet? The seller can't be sure that they will secure a ticket if they have not yet been released.

Viagogo is a resale site so how can he have bought a ticket that hasn't been originally sold to someone else yet? Viagogo has form for being a scammer's dream.

Viagogo are as bad as far as I can see, they sell tickets they don’t own in the first place and tell people they’ve got a ticket, (and some do) but usually they fess up on the day that they do not. By then it’s too late to shop around.

Im sure there are tv programmes about them being bad.

And is that not one of the retailers that some venues dont accept tickets from for that reason? Can you get money back and buy from elsewhere? Im guessing no…

Okay that's really strange and can't be good. However desperate he was, sense has to dictate that it's not possible to legit buy something that isn't on sale yet. I guess he can wait and hope for the best, but it could well be a scam I'm afraid.
