My flatmate has been nagging for a dishwasher for years now. We have one or two cats and yes we do seem to wash up several times a day. There is no space for a general one. We need one that doesn’t need plumbing and will take standard size plates.

does anyone rate them.

oh and while I’m here has anyone got a heat pump tumble drier. I have a spare bedroom can they really go anywhere?

im quite sick and bending it a strain for me and I’m sick of washing everywhere

Can't help with the dishwasher but I have a heat pump tumble drier which I hate. I was only reflecting this morning that it has sucked any joy out of laundry day by taking 4 and a half hours to dry one load. I get absolutely no satisfaction from using it and getting the job done in a reasonable time. Would be interested in other people's experiences to see if they agree.

Any condenser drier would fit your requirements but be aware they can sometimes create humidity so will need to go in a well ventilated area to prevent mould.

Thanks for that so I may have to look at condenser driers

I had this tabletop dishwasher and to be honest it was a massive waste of money. Tabletop dishwasher It wasn’t big enough for anything more than a few mugs, bit of cutlery and I had to buy new plates as mine were too big! It also took up a huge amount of space on my limited worktop. Think I used it for a couple of months then got rid of it.

I’ve decided that if my washing machine packs up then I’m getting a full size dishwasher and going to the laundrette with my laundry.

I don't know about table top dishwashers, but once we moved to a flat with a dishwasher that was it, it became a high priority in every other kitchen we had. I never want to go back. Also with the cat bowls I think it's more hygenic.

I love our Beko heat pump dryer. It's a game changer - we calculated it costs less to dry a load with than our heated airer. The time initially comes up on a standard load as 3.5 hours but it never actually takes that long. Things that take longest to dry (towels, jeans) do better by themselves in a small load than mixed in with faster drying things. If you're not plumbing it in, it's helpful to have it as close to a sink as possible for easy emptying.

My condenser dryer is great, wouldn't be without it.

isitmyturn · 23/10/2025 12:59

I haven't had a table top dishwasher but I have used a slimline one. To be honest unless you have a big one it's a waste of space. If you can only fit a tiny amount in it's just not worth it. They take a very long time to wash. Ideally a dishwasher should hold all your day's washing up.

Zofloramummy · 23/10/2025 13:08

I have a cookology XL counter top dishwasher. It lives next to the sink, under the boiler. It has two full racks and a cutlery tray. I absolutely love it. It does need to be plumbed in but honestly it is far easier and you can get a better size than the self fill ones, they need to be near a sink as well for the drainage so you may as well have a plumbed one.

I have a heat pump tumble drier and I really like it. It's quieter than my old condenser, doesn't cause as much humidity, and is cheaper to run. It's also got really good delicates settings meaning I can tumble dry things I wouldn't have put in my old one. I don't mind that it takes longer as I just put it on and then go and do other things, I'm not waiting around for it to finish.

Throwntothewolves · 23/10/2025 13:17

I love my heat pump drier, far better than the traditional drier we had previously, no condensation build up for a start. It can be plugged in anywhere, you just have to enter the water out occasionally, or you can have it enter directly into a drain.
The table top dishwasher we had was OK, but not as good as a full size one. It didn't clean well if fully loaded, so more often than not we just hand washed our dishes

CocoPlum · 23/10/2025 13:23

We had a tabletop dishwasher in a rented flat. Massive waste. It would fit all the plates/cutlery OR the pans but not both. Took up a massive amount of space. You need to have the space to drop the side of it as well if the door is side on - ours was as it needed slightly less space that way round.

We used it all of once a year (it came with the flat) and would never bother with one again.

unsync · 23/10/2025 13:27

Tabletop dishwashers are not the answer. You will be forever loading and unloading it, and if there's two of you, you can only fit enough in for a meal at a time, so you will be running it twice a day. They are also loud. If you can lose a base unit, put a proper slimline one in.

Aposterhasnoname · 23/10/2025 14:00

I will never understand how people manage with table top or slimline dishwashers, or say that they only put their full size ones on twice a week. They must only be washing plates then hand washing pans etc, which utterly negates the entire point of buying a dishwasher. Our full size one goes on twice a day minimum, sometimes three times, and there only two of us.

bouncydog · 23/10/2025 14:42

We have a heat pump drier and it’s great. It’s plumbed directly to the drain so water extracted drains away with no need to empty any containers.

bloodredfeaturewall · 23/10/2025 14:47

we had one for a while in a rental where there was no space for an under counter one.
was great, easy to install washed well.
when we moved out we sold it on an auction site for almost sale price. (don't remember the brand)

ClickClickety · 23/10/2025 15:20

Have you tried a heated clotheshorse? Chuck a sheet over it and it will dry a load of washing really quickly.

Blooming stray that people have left behind. Two of my own cats that are too lazy fo go outside and two bruisers that were living outside they are my flatmates. That number could change at any time as the weather has changed and I’m feeding two outside. I have houses for them but I don’t know if they use them
