The generational gap - things your kids laugh at you about

my Dc ds17, dd13 think it’s hilarious because I make them take actual cash with them when they go out, even with me on trips away from home. It basically stays in thier bag. They can not get over why they’d need it when they have Apple Pay. I’ve always had a safety £5 when I went out with my mates at thier age, but I’ve obviously explained that sometimes card payments are not reliable and one time you might just need cash. It came to me earlier when DS told me his bus pass case was broken and he needed a new one because he keeps his safety money in that.

anyone else getting heat because of the generational gap 😂

Maps! Directions. I really like a physical map - usually in eg. A guide book. Of the whole place. Then I can pinpoint where things are in relation to each other, walk about knowing approx where I am. Whereas they just go into google maps and follow directions on the phone. I do not understand why they don’t find it useful to see the bigger picture! I even got a little guide book for a new city, that highlighted 10 specific walks, of different types. No interest..

My daughter doesn’t laugh at me for anything.

I’m wondering what she’s keeping to herself now!

DD insists on subtitles. She says the actors mumble, although we both agree that the Americans say weird stuff that we need to see written down to understand. 🤪

Mine both have the fold over wallet phone cases and DH and I stick to the silicone non-wallet type, I think we are the wrong way round there. DH texts by slow one fingered typing and it drives me nuts watching him.

I agree about the radio, DD puts it on in the car but otherwise it's Spotify all the way. Mind you I probably only listen to the radio a couple of hours a week and that's in the car too, apart from maybe listening to the football on Saturday afternoons. We never have music on speaker in the house, we all use earphones. I hate music on in the background unless I'm driving, prefer podcasts and audiobooks.

I can't remember when I last used a paper map or guidebook but do still keep a road atlas in the car just in case. I do look at the bigger picture and spend a lot of time exploring on Apple maps, I don't just plug in the destination and go.

as others have said, listening to radio/watching live TV.
Using Google to find out stuff rather than ChatGPT!
