4 year old learning Spanish

Much to my surprise, DS4 came back from preschool chatting away in broken Spanish. His preschool teacher is from Argentina and the manager there proudly told me that DS had been doing Spanish lessons there since he was 1. I knew they did a bit of Spanish singing but no idea they had lessons and DS was a late talker so has never expressed this either until now.

Obviously it’s wonderful and DS was thrilled to have surprised me but I’d love to keep this skill going for him when he leaves for primary next year. I’m not sure other languages are included at primary school (or are they?) so I’m wondering if anyone had any suggestions to keep this going for him? I’ve seen fun Spanish classes for young kids but only aimed for homeschoolers in term time which won’t work for us next year.

Get a Spanish babysitter/au pair to chat/sing/play/read with him in Spanish.

This will be far better than Spanish 'lessons'. It will never stick doing an hour a week sit down lesson.

That's fabulous. There are currently no au pairs, so that's not an option.

But there are loads of spanish apps aimed at ks1.

@Nosleepforthismum , how wonderful! My elder son and his wife pay for two native Spanish speakers to come and play with their children, they only speak Spanish with them. My grandchildren love these play dates and their Spanish is very good. My elder grandson will soon be 6 he understands most of what is said to him in Spanish and his ability to speak is really, really good. His brother is 2, he too understands a fair bit (although not yet as much as his brother) and he has started to use some vocabulary.
