Hot drink suggestions!

I try not to have more than 3 cups of coffee a day, but I’ve usually had 3 by lunch time and haven’t really found a good alternative for afternoon drinks!

I hate tea. I drink infusions e.g. peppermint tea, but find them really insipid.

Any other suggestions please, Mumsnetters?

In an attempt to stave off colds etc, I like to make a brew (In one of those teapots with strainer) of fresh ginger and cinnamon. Punchy and warming.

Great question! I’m not sure I have an interesting alternative but I’m having more hot chocolate now it’s autumn!

Im a huge coffee drinker, but once a week I make a big jug of juice- orange, lemon, carrot, ginger, turmeric and black pepper. I keep some in the fridge to drink cold in the mornings, but I also freeze some in silicone cup cake holders. On an evening sometimes, I pop one out into a mug and pour boiling water over it. I do prefer it cold but its quite nice as a hot drink as well.

Do you want a pickup? Something warming? Something milky?

I like lemon + ginger, hot lemon + honey, masala chai, green tea with jasmine, hot chocolate, and decaf latte

I appreciate this is going to make me sound 108 years old , but last Christmas I found Horlicks malty chocolate drink . It’s a little hard to describe, but I find it “lighter” than hot chocolate but quite comforting to wrap my hands round a mug of it , it definitely feels like a colder weather drink .

I also can’t do the herbal teas no matter how many times I try.

Hot milk with cinnamon

This sounds amazing, please tell me I don't need a juicer to make it?

Just something with a stronger flavour than those infusions! I’m not really a hot milk person…do you make your own lemon and ginger?

either hot chocolate with caramel and hazelnut syrup or if you like nesquik powder heat up some milk and put some strawberry powder in then that makes a hot strawberry drink win win 😍

Nope! I just use a standard hand blender!

2 large oranges peeled, 2 lemons peeled, carrot peeled (ive only just started using carrots so experimenting with quantities, but 1 big one seems good!), thumb of ginger peeled, good few twists of black pepper and a teaspoon of turmeric. Use hand blender to make it into a pulpy juice.

Strain the juice out into a jug. Then put the pulp into a sieve and pour boiling water over it and squish it with a spoon to get e juice out. Keep pouring boiling water over it until the pulp starts loosing colour.

You can obviously play around with quantities to your taste- im going to try adding a bit more ginger on my next batch.

I drink a 'shot' of it as soon as I get up and another one mid afternoon when I have an energy slump. I tend to add a tiny squeeze of honey if I add it to hot water.

Its really delicious and super healthy!

I drink proper chai, cooked from scratch. It’s quite filling though as 1/4 is milk.

Thank you! I'm going to make this tomorrow now to stope drinking so much tea!

Try more infusions there’s some excellent ones out there - YogiTea have a HUGE selection. I also personally love:

Lidl sleep tea (lavender)
Aldi sleep (chamomile and apple)
Aldi detox (not sure but it’s nice!)
Rooibos with a splash of milk

Good quality peppermint is soooo much stronger and more flavourful than the cheap stuff

HarryVanderspeigle · 22/10/2025 20:52

Miso soup comes in little sachets to add to add to hot water. Much more taste than infusions. I also love clipper brand ginger tea for the flavour strength and no licorice root, which seems to ruin half the herbal teas on the market.
