How long is ok to leave baby awake in his cot on a morning?

Baby is 7 months old, he currently wakes 6am every morning. He never cries when he wakes up, will happily lie there and sometimes chatter away until I go to get him. I also have a toddler who wakes a similar time, I’m just wondering how long is acceptable to leave baby on his own before going in? Obviously if hes crying and upset I’ll get him right away but sometimes it’s around 20/30 mins before I go in and not sure if that’s too long? What would you say is the limit if they’re lying there? I don’t want him feeling neglected!

I have one who does this! I just leave him there till it's my normal time to go and get him up (7:20am). It's not normally more than 20-30 minutes. As he's got a bit older (now nearly 2), he's still happy playing around in his cot by himself but we can put more toys and books in so he's got stuff to do. I think it's great because I can get all my other morning stuff done before I go and get him. He also puts himself to sleep at night if you put him in his cot. It's like magic.

If for any reason he's not happy to play around in his cot by himself, he definitely lets us know. It's rare though.

That’s good to know! Mornings can be a bit chaotic here as there’s just me juggling both kids through the week so I try and get as much as I can done before I get him up. Baby is the same and gets himself to sleep (as long as he has his dummy) whereas my first if have to lie with him for ages so it’s great!

Blimey, this is the dream surely? A baby who is awake but not upset or crying and happy just to chortle away in his cot? I'd definitely say at least 30 minutes!

If he's happily chattering away to himself, absolutely fine to leave him 20-30 minutes.

As long as he’s happy!

Leave him to his thoughts. Enjoy the peace.
