Caravan in the garden

Inspired by seeing reels or someone turning a caravan into a gaming set up.

Has anyone done this?
I'm thinking a static, but I suppose it would work with a small one depending on what you used it for.

We have space and in theory I could clad it and make it look nice from the outside.

Is there likely to be planning restrictions, evening if you're not using it for living/sleeping?

If I could run water and waste to it I was thinking a utility/laundry room (which we don't have space for in the house). Ironing board permanently set up so it's not in my bedroom. Space to hang clothes so they dont take over the house.

A hobby/craft room. I could leave my sewing machine out. A place to retreat to.

A safe space for the kids to hang out as they get older.

It's a pipe dream. Quite an expensive one, but I'm a dreamer so I find these type of things interesting to plan and talk about.

What else could I do with it? What would you do with it?

I wouldn’t use one as a utility/ laundry as there can be condensation and mould especially in Winter in older caravans.
Newer statics have better insulation and sometimes have a washer or dishwasher. Prices have risen rapidly since Covid/ Lockdown.
A tourer as a gaming space or teenage hangout would work.
Transporting a static is really expensive. An owner of a site might quote a high figure just to move it to the edge of a site ( unless they were selling and wanted rid of it) You’d be able to tow a tourer with the right car and potentially use for breaks away too.

More than 30 years ago we owned a static at a (now) Haven site. Every November we had to shut up for the winter. I can remember condensation running down the walls and sleeping wearing a bobble hat. In winter a static caravan will be cold and damp.

We now have a purpose built cabin in the garden. It was meant to be a sewing room but never happened . It’s insulated has water but drains into soak away tank in the garden. Would have been ok for occasional drainage use but not to run a washing machine. For that you would need to join to the mains sewer and I would imagine permission from the water board would be needed.

in short utility room and clothes storage, bad idea

Dammit. I'll have to think of another idea for laundry. I hate looking at it 😆

I could be wrong but I think you might need planning permission for a static in a garden?

We have ceiling airera for laundry which hide the washing a bit.
