Thorpe Park in the rain?

I’m dropping my daughter and her friend at Thorpe Park tomorrow (young adults) and then finding somewhere nearby to hang out for the day. (any tips for nearby things to do welcome!)
Ive looked at the weather forecast and its pissing down!
Will the rides still be on?
They’ve got ponchos.
They chose this weekend as it’s fright night stuff on for Halloween and then the park closes.

nobody been there in the rain?

Wisley (between the showers)

biopd · 18/10/2025 13:58

someone mentioned Windsor, but that’s about half an hour away. Never been to Wisley, what’s there?

I think Wisley means Wisley gardens.

If youre in staines, you could look on trip advisor and see what's in Staines/Kingston

I dont know if many rides would be on. I wouldn't bother going when its chucking it down. It wouldn't make it a fun day out and I am a major Thorpe park fan. I know some rides can't operate in the rain, slipperiness or whatever. And the park workers also won't stand in the rain organising queues and putting the rides on. I'd cancel and organise for another weekend. Im pretty sure Thorpe park do rainy day refunds. Have a look at their website.

Shopping and dinner in Staines. Lots of nice places to eat by Two rivers. Also a cinema there.

thank you. It closes around 3rd November so we can’t rebook, as you can only rebook for the same year. And they wanted to do the fright night mazes. Bloody typical really, that rain is forecast. I’ve just had a look at their website and it lists rides which operate in rain, although as you say, not ideal. Despite rain ponchos!https://www.thorpepark.com/plan-your-visit/resort-information/weather-return-guarantee/

Weather & Return Guarantee | Thorpe Park Resort

If severe weather stops rides for over an hour, online ticket holders can return for free on selected dates. Enjoy peace of mind when you book!

I think they mostly run in the rain, its when its windy they don't. If you download the app it gives details of how they operate.

thank you, I’ll do that now, I don’t have the app!

OP posts:
SwankyPants · 18/10/2025 14:36

Also if your daughter has the app you can see how long the queues are and if any of the rides are closed. Its very useful!

CeeJay26 · 18/10/2025 20:04

Rides will operate on the rain, it’s the wind that affects them. It might be uncomfortable on some rides - rain feels like tiny knives at 80mph 😅

but hopefully queues will be smaller, and I’m sure they’ll have a good time.

jamjar2025 · 18/10/2025 20:07

Most rides will be fine generally with the rain, the wind is more problematic :)

PigletTiggerEeyoreAndRoo · 18/10/2025 21:29

Rain = less people = shorter queues = more goes on rides.

Just for info, dont know which way you will be going there but might want to check this before travelling as could affect your journey

I’ve been there in the rain, it’s ok!
Rochmond would be a good place to hang out, there is a foodie market on a Sunday, upmarket shops like Olivia Bonas and Reiss but your high street staples too. Riverside walk is nice and lots of places to eat and drink on the river as well as on the high street ( also an Odeon on Richmond Hill).

middleagebumpyroad · 19/10/2025 00:06

Someone said upthread that Kingston is an option and I second that as it has a massive shopping centre and plenty of places to eat and drink ( and not all chains). There is a cinema there also and you can walk along the river if it’s not as rainy as anticipated.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 19/10/2025 00:50

@biopd , I hope those ponchos are very good because the forecast sadly isn’t.
If the weather was more clement there are a few things to do in the surrounding area which are really pleasant but since the weather is not playing ball you could try the spa at the nearby Egham Orbit https://achievelifestyle.co.uk. There is shopping in Staines and it’s an easy hop by train or car to Windsor.

@biopd , Kingston is a very long way away. Staines and Windsor shopping is closer.

How did you get on OP? Did everyone have a good time? We are due to go tomorrow, any tips?

biopd · 20/10/2025 08:07

we stayed in Staines, had a couple of long walks by the river, which was very pretty. We did some retail therapy. Went to Eggham on toast for brunch, was delicious. Went to the cinema to see Tron Ares cos we had free Vue tickets. Had dinner at turtle bay. It was suprisingly easy to pass ten hours there! Daughter had a brilliant time and went on most of the rides. The maze was good. The ponchos held out to
an extent, but did let a bit of rain in. Next time, I’d get better rain coats/ponchos. They spent £12 each on a hotdog in the park, which traumatised them! 🤣

Glad they had a good time. But next time they can get their own ponchos. They are adults now and so can sort themselves out.
