I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been down for breakfast & gone back to bed. Dd1's home for the weekend, after birthday gig 12/12, in Leeds, last night, so they're in with her.

Dd2's awake & half getting dressed to head to the open day of the college she wants to apply to. We're getting the bus somewhere between 10 and 11. She knows exactly which subjects she wants to visit, so it's really just about firming her choices in her own head.

I'm not sure what dd1's plans are. She was going to nip into town with their dad for some bits she needed, but I don't think there's much on that list 🤷‍♀️.

When we get back, I should actually start on the amigurumi butterfly I wanted to make - I just can't settle on a pattern!

Tea is either Chinese or kebab - dd1's choice. She's not found a decent one of either in Wembley yet!

After that, showers, and probably an early night for me 💤

What about all of you?

As an update to my earlier post I’ve had an incredibly productive morning! I’ve put washing on, put washing away, bagged up loads of clothes for donations, called my mil and fixed a time to stop by, ordered some birthday presents, swept up the leaves in the garden and about to take dd to Sainsburys. I’m not very good at chilling 😂

Morning all, im still in bed at the moment, had a touch of vertigo yesterday and still not 100% so going to stay here a bit longer.

frozendaisy · 18/10/2025 10:52

Morning all

eldest announced that being able to go to a hardware store is a life lesson for a young man - I have no idea what needs to be learnt here - you need something you go out and look for it? What am I misssing?

I might suggest I go to boots whilst this life lesson gets ticked off to replenish medicine box for winter

we are decorating their rooms beginning of half term do do actually need things like paint
(I am much better in DIY shops it will be like the blind leading the blind with paint) how long until they text me to “just check this is the right colour/finish/amount”

Mexican buffet for dinner

frozendaisy · 18/10/2025 10:54

and had Covid vaccination yesterday so arm is sore and feeling a bit ropey (and paid £95 for this)
still better than full hit Covid I can only presume

WonsWoo · 18/10/2025 10:59

Morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I went and did the food shop at 8.30 because neither DH or I remembered to book an online slot this week.

DH did some laundry and general tidying while I was out.

We’re about to go out. Hoping to find a nice slightly autumnal drive through the South Downs and somewhere to take DDog on a long walk to wear him out.

Not much planned for the rest of the day/evening. Chicken Bacon and avocado salad for dinner. Might watch a film or make a start on my post holiday scrap book.

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I've had a really busy week, what with getting ready for my retirement party on Monday, an appointment with my diabetic nurse and my party on Tuesday, a flu jab, an oncology appointment and eldest grandson's birthday tea on Wednesday (for which I was making the cake at 7am!) bits and bobs on Thursday and an oral surgery appointment yesterday, so I was looking forward to a nice lazy day off today. That, of course, turned out to be a mistake!

Instead I woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep. Around 6am I finally gave up and went down to the kitchen to do useful (and quiet) things. I peeled and chopped around 3kg of lovely cooking apples one of my party guests brought me, and cooked them up for apple crumble later on and for the freezer. I also composed a parking fine appeal letter (apparently we parked on private land without permission. It was when we were picking up chorister grandson after evensong, it was on Cathedral land, and our car is registered to do so).

I also had a slightly weird breakfast of a garlic sausage sandwich and a banana (separately, not together). Then I went back to bed just as Mr Dilemma got up, and woke up about half an hour ago.

in a minute I'm going to find the bag of crumble topping I have in the freezer. I will also put whatever apple we need for today's crumble in a dish and bag up the rest for the freezer. I will then make the cassoulet we are going to have for our evening meal tomorrow.

Mr Dilemma has gone out into the garden with the hedge trimmer to lop off the hairy bits from our ground cover cotoneaster. It doesn't get done regularly enough to keep it tidy and bushy, so I didn't put him off, but I know I will suffer for it later when he complains how much his arms ache. We have a very nice chap who comes for 2 hours a fortnight to do just that kind of thing, and Mr Dilemma was meant to ask him to do that when he came on Thursday, but he didn't.

I might ask Mr Dilemma to change the bedsheets later on, before he starts to ache. I don't have the strength to do the bottom sheets although I can manage the duvet covers and pillowcases, and it will be several days before he feels up to it again. No other plans for today... Covid jabs tomorrow morning... What joy!

This is such a lovely thread!

DH has been fighting the flu all week so he’s still asleep, when he rouses I’ll take him a cup of tea and we’ll do the crossword. We’re meeting friends this afternoon to watch the football and DH has promised me a roast this evening. I’ll finish the book I’m reading and drop it back to the library on my way out later. Later I need to get myself online for the dreaded task of finding a dress for an upcoming wedding. It’s the first weekend in ages we haven’t had a million and one things to do and I’m absolutely thrilled about it

MargaretThursday · 18/10/2025 11:26

I'm getting my energy up to tackle the garden on my last totally free weekend this side of Christmas.

First thing is I need to bag up the stuff to take to the tip from the last time, and see if there's any danger of actually getting a tip appointment.

Before they introduced tip appointments, it was easy. Put stuff in car, drive there. Empty car. Done. Only time I had to queue was during covid and last time I went. I had to queue because they were stopping each car on the way in to explain about the appointments.
According to the local council the queues for the tip were stretching 3 miles. I can only assume they mistook yards for miles, which, judging by the rest of the rubbish they put on social media is far more likely than they thought it was true. Although they don't care if it's true or not either which is clear from their posts too. I think their motto is:

  1. blame the previous council
  2. if that can't be done, lie then blame the previous council
  3. If that's looking dodgy then shout louder that it's the previous council's fault
  4. if all else fails put your information out on social media and switch off comments so no one can point out it's a lie

Anyway. Once the baggings been done, and dh poked and told he's taking them to the tip, I want to plant a raised bed of bulbs. So I need to go to the garden centre and get the stuff.

Then I need to poke dh again and get him to mow the lawn, and preferably prune the apple trees. He must nearly be at the point of doing it because I've been asking for the last four weeks. It's the only thing in the garden he does, so I'm reluctant to do it myself.

Mind you, he still hasn't cleared the area next to the shed, that I've been nagging asking him nicely to do since last year...

Morning,

Just back from swimming lessons x3. Middle DC swam early today as they are in a swimming competition this afternoon.

Home for early lunch. DC1 is going to a friends for a sleep over and DC3 is getting collected by my sister and niece in an hour, then we're heading off fo a 1-7pm swimming competition. DC2 is only in a few races so there is going to be a lot of sitting about.

I'll grab us something on the way home, maybe fish and chips or a burger? DP will collect DC3 when he finishes work this evening and we'll hopefully be on the sofa with a film by 8pm!!

PompanoBeach · 18/10/2025 12:03

First day in Miami after arriving last night, hideous jet lag and just waiting for the sun to come up before we can her breakfast and go and explore for the day! If anyone has been any ideas of what to do are welcomed. We have two children aged 8 and 10!

Looking forward to seeing some sunshine and feeling the heat. I’m aware i probably sound smug, I haven’t been abroad in 12 years!

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 18/10/2025 12:17

Good afternoon Lucysmam and others. How nice to have dd1 home for the weekend.
I've had a week of feeling not right and yesterday I couldn't really do anything and retreated to bed. Today I have had two coffees and a cuppa and a slice of toast. Emptied and loaded the dishwasher, tidied the kitchen, stripped the bed, sorted the washing into piles and went to the post office. After that I had second breakfast at the local garden centre with my friend and her daughter. The washing is on and I'm about to clean the bathroom then hoover. Then I'll potter about and get the rest of the washing done. I'm not sure what dinner will be yet. Enjoy your day all.

Puregoldy · 18/10/2025 12:18

Slow start here with hoovering done and animals fed and sorted. Just back from an autumnal dog walk, leaves are now falling from the trees. I have work to do now before dp appears later might be a chilled evening or may join some friends for drinks we will see how we feel. I need to collect my food shop order to this afternoon.

Giggorata · 18/10/2025 12:34

Good day lucysmam and all.

I am working on a craft project, salvaging a massive cracked Victorian glass dome by (artistically) gluing twigs and foliage over the crack. It will house my taxidermy rook when it’s done.
Laundry is also happening and I am catching up with Composer of the Week on Radio Three this last week, which was Bach, my favourite.
DH is post flu jab and feeling a bit quiet, so is watching TV.
He will manage to cook himself steak and chips tonight when I am out at my coven.
Happy weekend to all.

lucysmam · 18/10/2025 14:14

@Giggorata that sounds like a fabulous project!

We're on our way home - decision pretty much made for dd2. She's just waiting for her next GCSE mock results to reply now...

Late to the thread but currently on holiday in Crete in the most gorgeous villa with three friends. It’s boiling today so we have lazed around the pool. Going down to the coast in an hour or so for our tea. Not been on holiday for a long time so it’s a real treat, missing the grandchildren though!

Greentreesx · 18/10/2025 14:28

I got out of bet at 10:45 am.
Spending the day chilling and looking on line for a nice peaceful getaway.
Got no chores to do did get my temu parcel earlier.

Kim82 · 18/10/2025 15:31

Good afternoon everyone, I was up at 6.30am as dh’s alarm woke me up. He went off to work and I had a lovely couple of hours on my own as dd11 had slept at her friend’s last night. I did a bit of cleaning and started the washing, put my Tesco delivery away and had a long, hot shower. Dd11 came home around 10.30am and brought her friend with her and I took them both into town just before lunch. Dd11 needed some new winter clothes then we went for a Chinese for lunch and got home around 2.30pm with my bank balance much lighter 😂

Once home I stripped and remade my bed, did more washing and sat for a bit. Dh is now home from work, dd11 and her friend have gone out and I have no plans for the rest of the afternoon. Dd18 is coming home from uni for the night tonight so she’s due around 5pm and wants to drink wine and watch a film which is fine by me. I can’t drink too much though or stay up too late as I’m up and out for 7am tomorrow to take dd11 to a dance competition. That’s far too early for a Sunday but needs must.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 18/10/2025 19:21

Very late to the party! Hope everyone’s having a nice evening. Busy day for me. I was awake early with DH & up by 8.30. Loaded the dishwasher with just the baking trays, pans etc & put some wet washing into the tumble dryer. Worked a 6 hour shift then went to Tescos. I didn’t have a lot on my list but ended up spending over £50. Scary how much everything is. Already got pizzas in for tea. Just counted & I have eaten 12 chicken poppers! They are sooooo moreish! Now watching Strictly & relaxing as no work tomorrow.

Zippedydodah · 18/10/2025 19:42

Good evening everyone! I have just managed to find you after a busy day, starting with walking the dogs at sunrise before getting stuff done before an all day Zoom art tutorial.
i got two loads of washing hung outside before it started as well as prepping lunch and sorting the fridge out.
I really enjoyed the Zoom, very inspiring.
Then it was walk and feed the dogs, get the washing in (it actually dried!), make cheese and tomato on toast because that’s what I fancied, fill the dishwasher and have a shower before flopping in my chair.
i need to get an online grocery shop done then I will have a glass of red wine.
Cheers!
🍷
