Where’s my black t shirt with the grey logo?
Is my grey hoodie in the wash?
Are my jeans dry?
If I wash this now will it be ready in 10 minutes?
My tops not dry, I need it now!
Have you seen my black jogging bottoms with the white stripe?

It’s driving me bonkers!!

If it's not in the basket and bought downstairs on washing days, it doesn't get washed

AnchorWHAT · 18/10/2025 10:56

Its inside out and buttoned up because thats how it went in the basket

I feel your pain

I think you need to make them responsible for their own stuff, then it’s up to them to keep track of their clothes.

Luckily neither of mine are into clothes but I have always had the rule that it’s their job to put the dirty clothes in the basket, I wash and dry it on my own schedule and they put it away. If they need something in particular it’s their job to tell me well in advance or to plan around it.

DD has been doing her own laundry since she finished her GCSEs. There have been a few times when she has run out of pants, or has had to wear a stained top to college, but generally she has managed it well. DS will start doing his at the same age.

I have lots of rules to make the DCs responsible for their own things at an appropriate age because I just can’t be bothered with the faffing and stress, I am not their servant and it is my job to teach them how to care for their things and to respect other people’s time.

Teenagers can wash their own clothes. If they don't wash them in time for when they want to wear them, that's their problem! Dd is at uni now and ds is 17. They've both been doing their own laundry for years.

CornedBeef451 · 18/10/2025 11:13

Although saying that I am still having the same battle with DS that started when he was small, separate your pants from your trousers and unball your socks! We might get there eventually.

Mydadsbirthday · 18/10/2025 18:28

The pants in the trousers - my DS still does this and he's 15. Drives me mad!!

Pedallleur · 18/10/2025 19:37

I do the laundry but it gets washed at my convenience. Want it back quick? Not if there isn't a wash. Wear it once more if you are desperate.

If it’s in the basket I’ll wash it when washing, I will not pick knickers out of trousers or socks out of socks.
