Attendance and illness

Inspired by another thread, but not a TAAT. I’m thinking about the frustrations felt when children pick something up from school, become sick and are then told attendance has dropped. E.g.

How many days has your child had off due to illness this year, but only for illness likely caught from school?

How many weekend days or evenings have been spent below par due to illness caught from school?

How many days has your DC been at school, but feeling below par due to illness likely picked up at school?

How many days has another member of your household felt below par or taken time off work due to an illness likely brought home from school?

It's easier to count the hours since the start of September that we haven't been ill...

Sounds rough.

A few weeks back DS was sent home halfway through the Monday and didn't make it back in for the rest of the week. At least with him being sent home by school, they didn't kick up a fuss.
T'other DS has been fine.

Work's been rife with sickness and respiritory illnesses. Some short, some dragging out. Cover's been a near constant nightmare since the 3rd week of term which is unusually early. I had my turn last week, fortunately fairly standard cold symptoms and I managed to plod on in minimal function mode. I've come off pretty lightly!

The frustrating bit at this stage of the school year is that attendance targets are based off the whole school year and don't take into account the limited sessions they've had so far, so one routine illness can take a long time for attendance to have enough sessions to get back on target.

Glad you got off relatively lightly. Illness season seems to start earlier and earlier!

So massive touch wood here but DC1 has never been off sick in reception and now the whole first term of Y1.

DC2 is currently on and off with various nasties but they’re only 14months. DC1 was similar in their first year of nursery. I do wonder if starting nursery so early and being there full time has turned their immune system in to steel.

That’s great. Mine went to nursery and picked stuff up, but school seems much worse in last couple of years. I seem to be affected longer than the kids though fortunately. I’ve had my youngest vaccinated against chickenpox, so that’s one less thing.
