Do you still wear clothes with holes in around the house?

had a nightdress develop holes in it this week and also some leggings. Both will be recycled. What about you? Do you still wear clothes with the holes in them?

generally how bad do clothes have to be before you get rid? Torn? Worn out? Material become thin?

I darn the holes and carry on wearing them.

statetrooperstacey · 17/10/2025 14:22

I don’t think I’d wear clothes with actual holes in no. How about ripped seams though , do they count?!

ohfourfoxache · 17/10/2025 14:23

How do you go about recycling these?

DappledThings · 17/10/2025 14:24

I wear clothes with small holes outside the house. I put a top on the other day and realised it had a hole about the size of a 5p in it. Not big enough to change in my mind.

By the end of the day it was about 5cm across and I did chuck it when I took it off that evening.

Beamur · 17/10/2025 14:27

Yes

Funnywonder · 17/10/2025 14:27

I don’t. For some reason holes in clothes annoy me. But something out of shape and stretched to buggery still gets worn😅

KittyRannaldini · 17/10/2025 14:28

I mend clothes if they can be mended and worn they're too far gone they become cleaning cloths.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/10/2025 14:39

My wool jumper has two small holes in it but is a lovely peach/apricot colour so I'll wear it. A nightdress I have has a tiny hole in it not worth bothering mending.

rewko · 17/10/2025 14:45

I have clothes with holes in that I wear out of the house 😅 once I find clothes I like and are comfortable I find it hard to let them go even when they get holes in and what not

mynameiscalypso · 17/10/2025 14:46

My DH does. He has a few nice jumpers which have small moth holes in them thanks to an infestation we had. He wears them for WFH. It seems a shame to get rid of them!

thisishowloween · 17/10/2025 14:49

If the holes aren't noticeable or in a place where they'll bother me, I'll carry on wearing - otherwise they go to the recycling bank.

I'm autistic though and have sensory issues around clothing so I'm probably more fussy than most.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 17/10/2025 14:49

No. I have no “around the house” clothes. I always dress in a way that I’m happy to be seen in or out of the house. I don’t get the concept of “around the house” clothes tbh, it’s just not me.

Fabulously · 17/10/2025 14:50

My clothes don’t really get holes in them.

I even have a 10 year old oversized t shirt from topshop that I still wear to sleep in, and it’s super soft & kept it’s shape so no reason to get rid of it.

I do throw out pjs that are too big, have lost the colour, or are uncomfortable.

ohfourfoxache · 17/10/2025 14:23

How do you go about recycling these?

Charity shops will take rags. They get money for them.

dizzydizzydizzy · 17/10/2025 14:54

A small hole on the knee or round the neckline - yes. A hole in the bum, no.

verycloakanddaggers · 17/10/2025 14:55

Yes sometimes, but also do mending. Sometimes visible mending, sometimes invisible.

Wouldn't throw things out for a small hole.

hellowhaaat3632 · 17/10/2025 14:57

Yes but then i wore trainers with holes in the sole in them for years (tbf i didn't realise)

cupfinalchaos · 17/10/2025 14:58

I wear rags in bed- as long as pure cotton I couldn’t care less how many holes. Not sure dh agrees though..

TiredOldLady · 17/10/2025 14:59

Yes. I keep them for diy, cleaning, gardening. Then cut up for cleaning rags, then recycling. .

NoOneToTextWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 14:59

to Just slob around the house, yes.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 17/10/2025 15:07

No, unless you count an old pair of leggings I have for painting the house.

i lost weight and replaced my wardrobe, and now only wear nice clothes at home and out, spent too many years feeling shit about myself and wearing crap clothes, so now it’s time to enjoy.

pokewoman · 17/10/2025 15:09

I keep a couple of pairs of leggings and shirts that might have small holes in for days when I might be doing a deep clean or decorating, and then chuck them when I've finished, but no, I don't wear them other than that.

Salvadoridory · 17/10/2025 15:13

First best, then day to day, then stables, then sofa snuggling. But I spend a lot of money on very few clothes so they have to last 20 years or so. Currently wearing a £700 burberry sweater which is more darn than original wool but I love it, must be about 19 years old before they destroyed the brand. Why not just fix the holes. I dont need to recycle most of my clothes, they generally biodegradable while im wearing them

SingtotheCat · 17/10/2025 15:14

Yes. It’s my small move against capitalism. My PJ tops are old tee shirts and a little hole here and there makes no difference.

VegQueen · 17/10/2025 15:18

Yes, I keep a load of old T shirts for gardening, decorating, cleaning and even dog walks tbh. Depends how big the hole is and where it is. A small hole or rip on the bottom of a T shirt is different to trousers where the inner thigh has worn away obviously. I prefer to wear old clothes for doing these things so that my nice clothes last longer.
