Are there any enjoyable films out at the cinema atm?

DH has a few long weekends booked off from work over the next few weeks and I have said it would be nice to go see a good film.

We used to love going to the cinema, in the 90's we would see a film every week, we would go out with our friends, have a meal out and some drinks and then go see the last showing which at our local cinema was 11pm on a Saturday night. They were some of my most enjoyable nights out.

I have found recently, not only are the tickets so expensive but all the films we have gone to see over the last few years have been just so, some down right boring. Maybe now we are a lot older we are harder to please but all the films recently have felt like poorly made re-makes of really great originals, too many horrors (which I personally hate) and too many sci-fi films. There seem to be few griping thrillers, comedies or anything light-hearted.

Which films have you seen recently that you have really enjoyed (not horrors, sci-fi or Marvel films).

I enjoyed: one battle after another and the roses. I agree with you that the price of tickets now can be extortionate, because I enjoy the cinema so much and I am lucky to live near an Odeon, I have treated my self to a my limitless ticket. Maybe something that could work for you?

I just saw I swear - it was unbelievably good! Funny, moving and just amazing

I was just going to say I Swear. I haven't seen it but it has been highly recommended to me by a few people.

Have you got any upmarket chains or independents locally? I could fancy seeing Roofman or Battle of a Small Player which are on at my local Curzon.

There are so many at the moment. I’ve enjoyed I Swear, Urchin, One Battle After Another this week. I’m watching Good Fortune and Regretting You next week.

I was going to recommend I Swear too

My daughter has Tourette’s and I took her to see it. We both really liked it.

Not out until the end of November (and on Netflix a couple of weeks after that) but the new Glass Onion film (Wake Up Dead Man) is really good. (Saw it courtesy of the BFI London film festival.)

Enjoyed Dead of Winter, Emma Thompson was very good. Pretty bleak, though.

Absolutely loved I Swear

I've got 2 free cinema tickets a month but there's not much on that's appealing.
Films seen this year.

Mad about the Boy, The Saltpath, Downton abbey and will see the Choral in November. Hopefully something in December.

Look at the trailers on the website, it gives you an idea of what you want to see. They tell you coming soon films too.
We are all different in what we like.

Same boat here! Nothing fresh in cinemas lately, I’ve been diving into cinematic mobile games instead — actually more entertaining .

YourPeppyAmberTraybake · 18/10/2025 20:17

I recommend Good Fortune.

YourPeppyAmberTraybake · 18/10/2025 20:19

Regretting You and the Springsteen movie are my next movies.

Theraffarian · 18/10/2025 20:24

Another vote for I Swear
