Child Benefit - finished sixth form

DD finished 6th form this year and now on a gap year.

It suddenly occurred to me that the child benefit might not have stopped automatically at the end of her academic year (31st August) and that I need to tell someone?

She has just turned 19.

I've tried googling but can't seem to find the information.

Thank you.

Surely you can just check your bank account to see that it's stopped?

You would have had a letter when she was 16 that you replied to saying she was remaining in full time education for sixth form. That means child benefit stops on the 31st August after they turned 18, unless you wrote to them again saying she was still in education after that date (which it sounds like she isn't).

What do you mean it might not have stopped automatically? Did you get a payment in September?

It stopped automatically for both my DC. I did get a September payment but it was only for the last week or so of Aug. Not the whole month.

It should stop automatically. If you didn't tell them she was in education it would be have stopped after GCSEs. You can log in to your gov account online and see your claim and what children you have on it.

Thank you everyone. I think it must have stopped then. I just don't remember getting a letter from them. Many thanks.
