Please help me get my house smelling nice

Being the guardian of a dog, producer of children, and a bit of a slattern, my house doesn't always smell wonderful (unless the smell of warm shin pads appeals). But I really want it to. As well as upping my game on the cleaning, I was thinking of incorporating some dried flowers. Don't want to go down the route of artificial scents, really (although is this unrealistic?). Amazon seems to sell a lot of dried lavender, but all imported from China (I'm in the UK), which seems ecologically unsound. Also - how do I know which brands/types smell strongest/best? I love the smell of lots of flowers, but am not a fan of chemical air fresheners. I have about a million spider plants to "clean the air", and I love them but they don't do much for smell.

Ideas, wise ones? TIA

You need to be careful with lavender around dogs as it can be toxic if they ingest it, so make sure you keep it well out of the way.

We use Devon Wick wax melts, they're cheap, long-lasting and don't smell artificial. They last ages too.

I have put an air purifier in teenage son's room it has an odour neutralising cartridge as well. (It was a shark one from Amazon. Around £100 but last resort)

DS's allergies have improved, room does not smell of teenage boy anymore

Oh this sounds promising - will look - thank you.
I'd heard scented candles aren't great for air quality, but wax melts sound less burny...?
Good shout re lavender and dogs.

Wax melts are good. Or you can just put a few dots of essential oil on a cloth and tuck down the back of radiator.

Oh yes, of course - essential oils! That sounds like a great idea. Just need to make sure not to drop them on anything the dog can chew, because she's a devil for that and essential oils are very toxic, I think....

@InternetPortal we've never had an issue with wax melts - and if you use an electric burner it shouldn't impact the air quality. We have multiple animals in the house too and they've never been affected :)

It works really well and i wish i’d known before a spent one zillion pounds of a neom diffuser which i’m not that impressed with.

yes careful around animals but should be do-able. The tisserand oils are lovely.

Purdy and Fig have lovely natural scents.

Open the windows daily.
And keep ontop of washing the dog bed.
Ideally with shin pads and football boots living in the garage.

Do you have carpets? My house smells iffy to me - especially when we've been away for a while - even though there's always windows open. I think it's mostly the inherited carpets, which we've spot cleaned but not deep cleaned the whole thing. Downstairs we only have carpet in the living room and going up the stairs, the rest is hard flooring but I do suspect it's that. I also feel the shoe racks probably contribute, so maybe I should get a cabinet type storage to keep them in.

I sometimes dab a little Zoflora on the radiators so when they heat up, it smells nice for a while. Or unlit scented candles offer a gentle aroma.
