Like most, if not all, we now have to submit an online request that gets triaged by the reception team. I submitted one this morning and have just been told that someone will ring me back within 8-12 weeks. Madness

Less than 24hours…

smallglassbottle · 16/10/2025 13:06

We phone at 08:30 then they usually schedule you to see a nurse practitioner the same day. Something more urgent gets a GP call back and something urgent and complicated gets you in to see a GP face to face.

MarxistMags · 16/10/2025 13:23

They usually phone you back so that an ANP or GP can talk to you within 5 hours. Then I've been seen that day or within a week at most.
It seems to be 3 weeks wait for a follow up appointment.

TY78910 · 16/10/2025 13:52

I did an online form last week, got a call a few hours later for an appointment the following week. Suppose it depends on your symptoms but this seemed fine to me.

clinellwipe · 16/10/2025 14:11

A couple of hours to get a phonecall back

Juliejuly · 16/10/2025 14:18

Same day call back, and if I need to be seen an appointment at my convenience, even a Saturday morning once for a longer than normal consultation.

thisishowloween · 16/10/2025 14:23

You’d get a phone call back within an hour to either book you an appointment or discuss what you need.

Catpiece · 16/10/2025 14:29

Sent an online request at 9am. Receptionist phoned to tell me the dr would call me between 10.30 and 11.30. He did.

HesarealJacquelineHigh · 16/10/2025 14:31

Wow, maybe it's just our area that's extremely bad then. We've only got two surgeries that are merged, and they cover about 30,000 patients. The waiting times have never been this bad before, our local MP has had to get involved

No idea as the online form is similar to the phone calls. It's opened at 8am and shut down after capacity has been reached. Usually 8.10am. My laptop is too old to get through the very long form in a good enough time unfortunately so I never get through. Wish the form was just a basic text box instead of many, many, multiple choice pages. There's about 20 just for headaches 🙄

YorkieTheRabbit · 16/10/2025 14:34

I’ve just looked at our doctors website, they’ve done online booking for several years.
The booking system goes up until the 27th November and there are no available appointments at all,

Do you can't call them?

FuzzyWolf · 16/10/2025 14:38

I have a private GP through work which is wonderful because the wait times for a routine appointment are typically 6 weeks plus at my NHS registered surgery.

ChocolateBoxCottage · 16/10/2025 14:39

Normally it's on the day or the next day. Got a weird multi coloured lump with irregular edges that's bleed on my back and that's just over 3 weeks. I was surprised as our surgery either see you fast or just diagnose over the phone.

I've had it for a few months and it's grown but I'm hoping it disappears before then.

HesarealJacquelineHigh · 16/10/2025 14:42

JaneEyre40 · 16/10/2025 14:35

Do you can't call them?

If you call them, they've got a recorded message that tells you they're under unprecedented pressure at the moment, that the wait time is up to 12 weeks for call backs or appointments and to only stay on the line if it's urgent/an emergency. They will take general enquiries and book in blood tests, but they won't arrange any other appointments, it has to be requested on the online system

This is what my previous one was like before I moved, it was so much better

I'm not 100% sure because our dr surgery closed recently and we have only used the new one once. But it depends what your problem is. I phoned for dh last week when his finger was leaking pus and the receptionist triaged and he got a phonecall that afternoon and a prescription for antibiotics the next day.

HesarealJacquelineHigh · 16/10/2025 14:46

I can't believe how much better everyone else's sounds. I feel so ill, I've been considering whether I need to just try and go private or something but that's not really achievable long term I don't think

KookyRoseCrab · 16/10/2025 14:47

We have askmygp which I think is wonderful as we can take photos of the problem too , last time after a backwards and forward talk i was earmarked a doctor who saw me that day

Idloveababycham · 16/10/2025 14:50

It depends on the situation.

When I had cellulitis in one lower leg I was seen that day after being triaged by the Nurse Practitioner.

MissyPants · 16/10/2025 14:57

Same day here.
Never had any issues whatsoever.
Send the doctor a message through patch's via nhs website login.

incognitomouse · 16/10/2025 14:58

If I do an e-consult, they respond normally within 30 minutes with an appointment F2F or call if that's suitable. If I call up, they'll triage over the phone. If it's urgent I can normally arrange to see someone same day, if it's routine, if not next day within a couple of days.

Mummydoctor · 16/10/2025 15:00

Work in general practice. A GP triages all requests for appointments on days when demand is high. That way we get urgent cases seen same day (sometimes within an hour if we have enough availability) but if the issue is routine, we will message to say so and ask our reception team to contact the patient. Typical routine appointments are 1-4 weeks depending on if wanting a particular clinician/type of appointment.

janeandmarysmum · 16/10/2025 15:02

Depends on the condition. UTI - same day and antibiotics at the pharmacy within the hour. Itchy ears - it was 6 weeks or so. I was happy with both courses of treatment.

Coffeecakebakes · 16/10/2025 15:03

Our surgery also has an online form to complete at 8am and by 8.05 the site says it is full and not accepting any more forms. I type the information into a word doc and then can copy and paste for speed when the form is open and hopefully can submit before the cut-off. No idea you have to wait for a GP, but it is 8 weeks for a nurse.
