Were you ever on a site with a strong community feel

Just interested to know what people have to say about this. I was on a questions and answers site, not that I imparted much knowledge, it was mainly the music and chat areas I liked. But there were a lot of friendly regulars who I was friends with over tinternet. Mostly Americans, and I think about them now and then. No particular single other user but I miss the community, the atmosphere, if that's the word. I suppose my kids were no longer needing me and it filled a bit of space in my head, my life. Killed odd bits of time and was nice seeing a side of other users lives.

Plenty to be dealing with now and even if it came back I've moved on from that kind of site, I think.

Can other people relate to this ?

Babycentre 2002 group was mine.

I was on a forum about a sport I did. It was quite big but there were long-running threads where groups of regulars competing at a similar level or doing similar training would congregate. I ended up meeting loads of them in real life because we'd travel to the same competitions, and a few lived in the same area as me. Some of them are still FB friends, though not all do the sport any more and I don't think the forum is still going.

hello @IHaveRunOutOfIdeas <waves to hello BM>

Yep. Bad Mothers Club. I still miss it now. I’m in the Facebook group which is still very supportive but so quiet.

Please tell them I said hi! I know they are using real names now and I haven't been on for at least 3 maybe 4 years. No one probably even remembers me bar the odd couple who I met up with.😂

Yes, I remember the carnage fall out following the outing of the trisomy 18 poster. I think she was uncovered via fake scan pictures in the end? It was pretty disgusting. Lots of people felt betrayed as they had shared their personal stories and become very emotionally invested over a long period of time.

There was also the lady from Garstang, who claimed to have an opulent lifestyle, who was, in the end, outed as a troll also (but this particular troll was actually quite fun to engage with as the lifestyle claims were so outlandish!)

Also, EmmaLampard (I think it was) with her divisive makeup tips!

But there were also meet ups and great amounts of support . Was a great forum in its day.

Yes I remember Lampers!

I remember sticking up for the poster, and then it all coming out and yeah it was awful.

Elegant from garstang is our smoke signal haha.

I still have some of you on Facebook. I left the Facebook group years ago though. And I don't use it at all really now.

Made some really good friends at the time. There's someone who I haven't seen around for a while and I hope she's okay.

weegiemum · 16/10/2025 11:11

Babyworld antenatal group when I was expecting ds who is now 23. I’m still in touch with several of them, we have a Facebook group now.

I was also on MN from 2002. Great community in the early days!

Yes - big wedding website with a busy off topic forum, which then spawned a separate spin-off forum. I was on there for a good few years, it was a hoot. Lots of big characters/dramas/gossip and lots of funny and supportive people too.

Edited

Hitched/Deadwood? I left when it moved to facebook and I got set upon for deviating from the hive mind on trans rights. It was great, but the main characters were a bit toxic at times.

Waves at @DeafLeppard Yep. The Facebook jump ruined it. But what a fab place it was before.

Yes, Hitched/DW. What fun it was! And rather mean girls (and boys) at times.

MyAcornWood · 16/10/2025 12:18

Cosmopolitan! Back around maybe the mid noughties. It was such a lovely community feel. There were still disagreements but it stayed largely respectful.

BabyBump! Met some lovely women in there when I was pregnant with my daughter in 2011 - am still in contact with some of them now. We moved over to Instagram when it was brand new 🙂

Same. It was brilliant there. Did you move over to mom.life as well? That wasn’t as good

I was on Damsels, found it eventually when everyone moved from Handbag and I was left talking to myself! There was a damsel scarf that was a bit of a trend on there, doesmybumlook40 was a prolific poster and I was heavily involved in the pregnancy chat in 2009/2010.

There was another site similar to Tattle but it was to slag off other forums but I can’t remember the name 😩

The Mock Turtle? and there was the HD one something to do with hair.

PS @BloodandGlitter I loved Neopets back in the day.

Thanks for everyone who has replied so far. Glad I'm not alone.

I was on babyandbump in 2011 too! They helped me through a really difficult time with my ex, was a really kind community.

I remember your name from there. I was on there from 2008 - 2011ish. Had a break then went back when TTC baby no2 in 2015 but it didn't seem the same somehow and a lot of people I interacted with had moved on. I'm still FB friends with a few from there. It was such a lovely supportive community 💕

I'm still Facebook friends with quite a few from there and have met up with some. Had a group chat for ages with some of them which was lovely.

I was on Wedding Ideas forum from 2006 - 2011ish. It had such a lovely community feel, so supportive. We had regular local meetings ups too.

Many of us migrated to a FB group. It blows my mind that I've been in touch with these lovely ladies for almost 20 years. We've been through our weddings, some divorces, new relationships, having children together and watching them grew up and unfortunately a few have lost children and spouses. But we're always there for each other 💕

Yes, Hitched/DW. What fun it was! And rather mean girls (and boys) at times.

I was another Hitched/Otter, though I never made it to Deadwood. I did join one of the Facebook groups and was active there for a few years, think we even had a couple of meetups, but it's gone quiet now.

Before that I was on a Lord of the Rings fan site, around the time the films came out, and met some lovely people there. I was on the Student Room for aaaages, including being a moderator for quite a long time (we used to get awesome mod meets!) and met my DH on there.

I'm actually still in a lovely WhatsApp group created from our MN TTC club (Just Shagging - we even got a disapproving mention in one of the big newspapers at one point Grin ) even though our JS babies are mostly 9/10+. And my other group of "pocket friends" that is still active is a group of doctor mums who had babies in summer 2019. We've seen each other through a lot!

The Priory

Fifiellz · 17/10/2025 09:58

Yes The Priory! That was the one!

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 17/10/2025 10:10

I joined a UK dial-up site called CIX from the late 80s through to the early 2000s which was fab. It had lots of topics to choose from and it was on the whole very friendly. I was in the bikers topic among others and we'd have a busy itinerary of parties, camping weekends and longer trips every year, all organised on CIX. I think it's still going but it's a shadow of its former glories.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/10/2025 10:13

20 years ago - very early forum, SheCycles. Made some good friends, who are still friends.

Now - Feed your Family for £20/week. Much more than just recipes and meal plans!
