Hotel Stay for Christmas

I fancy doing something different this year. Arrival at hotel on Christmas Eve and checkout Boxing Day. Is there such a thing? Maybe a stay in London? I fancy lunch, a walk, maybe seeing the lights of London or stroll through the park. Has anyone ever done this? How was it? Will be young adults & me. They are happy to have a change!

Budget? For somewhere nice in SE for a 2 night hotel stay and lunch.m over Christmas… well, you’re looking at many many hundreds. Many!

YippyKiYay · 15/10/2025 12:07

That sounds amazing, what a nice idea.
I hope there is something available that suits you ☺️

One of my friends did this a couple of years ago and had the most amazing time. She picked a hotel in London that had a festive package type deal which was 2 nights in a suite, a dinner on Christmas Eve, Christmas buffet breakfast/Christmas lunch, they had something on for young kids as well, the suite was decorated beautifully with a big tree etc! It did cost her a small fortune but she has always said it was such a special trip

I would suggest doing your research. A family member went to a hotel they regularly stay in/visit with her husband. They were very disappointed. There was very little staff on and the staff who were there were agency who did not really know the run of the hotel. They said that the food was pretty inedible. They paid a huge amount for the three nights. They did complain and got a voucher to return.

Hold on to your hat when you start searching! This is a thing but it is often very very expensive.

madaboutpurple · 15/10/2025 12:32

I would think you need to sort your booking as soon as you can otherwise places will be totally booked up.

Bowling4soup · 15/10/2025 12:35

My friend and her mum do this every Christmas. Not in London, usually York or similar. They stay 3 or 4 nights in a spa hotel. My friend loves it as there’s no cooking and washing up haha they take all their presents with them and have a great time. She said she can’t imagine staying at home for Christmas now (friend is 33, single no kids)

Definitely go for it - we've done it by going long-haul to Asia and it's been amazing. However - word of warning - make sure the hotel offers an Xmas package because otherwise it'll be entirely cut down services and restaurants will also be closed. It will be expensive and it'll be hard to find somewhere this late I think with a great package on offer. It will be expensive too, but I guess you know that!

I would say for an amazing experience, you need to have a very healthy budget. We priced up something similar for 2 nights and it was £5k+ depending on calibre of hotel. As amazing as it might be, it was a no from us - I want an excuse not to have to host but that cost was just way more than we could ever justify!

Thanks! Do you know where your friend stayed? That sounds exactly what I have in mind. Yes, it will be v costly but a special experience.

York would be amazing! Do you know where your friend has stayed? Amazing if it has a spa, too. Brilliant! Would only be a one-off for us.

Yes realise it’s late already and that it will be costly. It is as an alternative to a long haul hol in fact!

We did the Christmas package at the fish one year. I think it was 3 nights and about £2000

TheCowgirl · 15/10/2025 13:37

Like this but less fancy!

No kids, so don’t need the Father Christmas things.

Ooh tell me more. What is the fish? £2k sounds reasonable.

The Grand hotel in York is really nice, I've been there over Xmas but I can imagine it will look amazing

Mirrorxxx · 15/10/2025 13:47

The fish is a hotel in cotswolds. We stayed on one of the shepherds huts. I think the price has probably gone up now but it depends on the room type you need

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 15/10/2025 13:57

The hotel I worked in for many years did a lovely Christmas package. Guests arrived on Christmas Eve, and we closed the big front doors to non-guests and basically fed and watered them morning till night! 😂

It wasn’t cheap but no one ever said they didn’t think it was worth the cost and we had quite a few people who came every year.

ccridersuz · 15/10/2025 14:51

Christmas in Germany is magic, that would be my choice, but I’d also stay longer and do new year.

Would be lovely but we are committed to staying in the UK and only have those days together
