Does anyone else get excited this time of year thinking about their new diary?

I keep checking my usual online shops for 2026 diaries/planners. For me it’s usually either Muji or The Journal Shop for Hobonichi, two ends of the spectrum. I am thinking next year is going to have to be Muji due to COL. Muji haven’t released their 2026 diaries yet. Does anyone know when they usually come out? What’s everyone getting this year?

I haven't used any physical diary or calendar since Covid lockdown when the future all seemed so depressing. I just use my phone now 😥

I love the idea of a diary. But since I haven't even taken the plastic wrap off this year's diary, which is now destined to become a glorified notebook one day, I probably won't bother getting one for 2026. #ADHDlife

TMMC1 · 14/10/2025 09:14

No. Haven’t bought one for 15 years or longer.

thecatfromneptune · 14/10/2025 09:15

I used to, to my specific preferred diary format from Paperchase (now at Tesco), but last year they inexplicably stopped producing them in a week to view format. Despite loads of unsold chunky day per page doorstoppers last year, they appear to have done the same this year. Aaargghhh!

Who wants a day per page format? Surely the point of a diary is to see the appointments you’ve got on all week? I’m not 12; I’m not buying it to keep a journal! 😬

My diaries run academically: Sept-->August, so I'm six weeks into mine already. I can't stand electronic calendars, but I do have a monthly wipeable calendar on the fridge.

I write in my diary every day, have done since I was 11.

I still use a paper diary. Just bought next years in fact. Usually buy from JL as they have quite a good selection. I buy a one week to two pages one and I sort of live my life by it.

Yes I have a smart phone (well 2 actually) but there is something very reassuring about writing it down and checking it each day and week.

I'm not sure I get excited at the idea of a new one but there is an element of new year, fresh start, new diary. Mostly I go jeez it's October already better get next years diary bought.

JL have a good selection so it can't just be me (and you) who are buying them. Will they die out with the older generations? Perhaps. Reckon I'll be buying them till I die though. I'm early fifties.

I love a planner. Has to be a daily planner for me but with preferably a weekly and monthly section too.
I struggle to find what I want (at a reasonable price anyway) so I've stated trying to design my own now.
I'm going to check out those places you've mentioned though.

I remember things better if I write them down so I will always have a paper diary. I actually prefer my filofax though, but will need new inserts soon. I buy either from Amazon or princess planning.

Have you tried bullet journalling? I now get excited about new notebooks that I can customise and I don't need to wait a year for a new one! I can't get on with electronic c or phone diaries even though I do put dates into the family calendar and work calendar

LifestyleChanges · 14/10/2025 09:45

Yeah I have tried bullet journaling. My favourite notebooks are Midori (grid ones) they're just pure joy. I even buy stickers (I am 55 😊)

My preferred diary starts in Aug. Think it's Mum's Office. Just a practical one I can easily add in the activities/whose away for everyone else in the household.

For writing my thoughts type of diary, used to buy a journal from Paperchase....oh how I miss you Paperchase.

I’m the same love a Muji diary just a bit worried they have stopped doing them

I have my 2026 diary already. Black pen for work, purple pen for personal.

I run my own business and get frustrated when people spend ages faffing about on their phone, squinting to see if they can have an appointment next Tuesday or whatever. Just get a proper diary and open it on the right page. Takes 1 second max.

Norugratsatall · 14/10/2025 10:51

Yes I have a paper diary, use as a journal too. Started this in lockdown when I became unwell (now have Long Covid). And just continued it. Every year I struggle to find one suitable that isn’t too big. Gave up last year and bought an A5 one from WHS. Agree with poster upthread, Paperchase have really left a gap in the high street since their demise. I might look at some of the suggestions on this thread though for 2026’s diary! 😁

SprockettsFarm · 14/10/2025 11:44

I'm...apprehensive. I don't deal with change easily and I've been using the exact same format of diary for FIFTY YEARS, only for Letts of London to discontinue it now. I am gutted.

After all these decades of compact size, Sunday-start double-page-spread week-to-a-view, I've had to buy a taller, slimline diary for 2026 with <gulp!> a Monday start. This means Thursday falls at the bottom of the left-hand page instead of Wednesday, which I've always regarded as the midweek point. And the Letts slimline design was so utterly fugly that I've chosen a different manufacturer too.

I suppose I'll get used to it in time (by 2030, maybe) but it's going to be hard. Sad

I like dotted ones. Ive had a variety over the years. I have stickers too (52) and Washi tape but by about 2 months in, I usually abandon that!
@FourChimneys Stupidly it never occurred to me to do 2 different coloured pens! Good idea!
