To be very jealous of my friend and husband.

I’ll admit I’m very jealous of my friend and partner. All 3 off us have been over weight I gained due to having a a baby having been a size 10 all my life before. My bmi was in the overweight range and I started to do something about it. I’ve lost just under a stone since the beginning of summer it’s been so tough with a baby and being chronically unwell. I’m back on plan and have made a real effort to watch what I eat the last week. Both my friend and husband are on injections and lost loads of weight there food noise has gone and they feel full I just feel starving even though I really trying to eat filling food that’s low calories to keep me fuller for longer but it’s not helping much. I’m also struggling with my chronic fatigue and often used to use food to keep me going. My friend is now 8st and was saying on a girls night out how easy shes found it how it’s completely stopped her food noise. My husband is doing really well and his appetite has greatly decreased. I’m so jealous I know it’s probably better in the long run to not be on injections and I should be proud I’ve lost almost a stone. It’s just so hard and depressing feeling like I want to eat more and I can’t. This is more of a ramble than anything just wanted to vent to someone as I’m craving a snack and I’m saving my calories for dinner later.

Some really very nasty views on here. It baffles me.

I’m not talking about those people :)

Why did you join in a conversation between two people who were discussing exactly that and start talking about something else then? People who take WLIs and then stop are a totally different group to those who stay on permanently. So as I said, it would be useless!

I can’t I don’t weigh enough I’m just under the bmi they won’t except me I’d have to gain 1.5 stone to be excepted

So not just under at all then?

Baffles me as well but I've seen it on numerous threads now. There are people out there who don't want overweight people to lose weight. They certainly don't want overweight people to be helped to lose weight. They'd rather we remain overweight so they can feel superior.

Yep.

But I don't actually think that's at all baffling. There is social currency to being slim, and part of that had increasingly come from rarity value. But WLIs drive a coach and horses through that, because now millions of people can buy it. This means the rarity value will go. Lots of people don't care about that, but some find it threatening. It's to OPs credit that she isn't one of those, she's just understandably envious. I would be!

VoltaireMittyDream · 13/10/2025 20:34

Oh my dear God why does everyone have to be so awful to one another where weight and weight loss is concerned?

Questions I have for the OP:

Does your chronic health condition affect nutrient absorption? I felt endlessly hungry and exhausted and as though my body was running out of something vital when I had low ferritin and b12.

How long ago did you have your baby, and are you still breastfeeding / up all night with the baby / exhausted? If so your body is under a lot of stress still and it’s not the time to worry about your weight, particularly if your BMI is just nudging the overweight category and your baseline pre-baby was healthy.

I think it’s normal to envy people who have a ‘transformation’ - there is something exciting about a big change. And it’s great when something that has been difficult becomes easier for someone. And it’s normal to wish it could be easier for you, particularly when you’re tired and managing a chronic health issue and everything feels hard.

Hang in there and take care of yourself.

Obviously I meant in the beginning 🙄 I’m trying to make someone feel better about themselves it doesn’t need the petty police

You don't need to make someone feel better by putting other people down.

27pilates · 13/10/2025 20:39

Make sure you’re eating enough protein OP. That will keep you fuller for longer between meals. Ideal weight in kg x 1.6 will give your daily amount of protein in grams.

Really good point. I was iron deficient a while back, and I hadn't realised how knackered I was til I started to supplement. Worth considering asking for bloods, and if your BMI is 27-29.9, worth getting your cholesterol checked while you're at it.

CountFucula · 13/10/2025 20:49

My bmi was under 30 but with (very) high blood pressure and high cholesterol I qualified for the jabs.
they are magic and life changing and have helped me no end. I won’t be staying on them but it has helped me reset my appetite and my portion size. I can run now! I am very much hoping that this will be a lifelong change but if it isn’t I’ll get back on the jabs. Maybe talk to a GP?

DiscoBob · 13/10/2025 20:52

I get it. Food noise is massive and affects people of all weights. I sometimes, when feeling out of control and bingey, do wish I could do WLI. But I know I don't medically need it.

But all I can say is I hope you can keep your weight healthy and not think too much about what others are doing. X

Ultimately, it’ll be you who keeps the weight off OP.
those on jabs will be on them for life. My friend came off of them and gained 10lbs in 2 weeks. Shocking.

Actually it won’t !!

of 615 women and 734 men only 1 of them managed to get from obese. (bMI 35 to 24) and of all of those 1s in a study sample of 12k .. less than 1% had maintained their loss after 5 years. Whereas 45% on Mounjaro and stopped and 95 %!who continued on a maintenance dose did.

that’s why it’s a game changer .. (I’m 8 st down and maintaining 1yr 4 months later )
DIET and exercise does not work once you are severely overweight or obese . Just look at all the studies that support this . The BMJ and New England medical journal articles are your friend here . Proper academic research.. not social media .

Fishingboatbobbingnight · 13/10/2025 21:24

Jellybunny56 · 13/10/2025 18:16

Well done on your loss OP. It will most likely be you who keeps it off because although your loss will be slower, yours is all you. The injections are great as a quick fix but you’re then either on them forever OR you come off them and gain the weight back. The studies speak for themselves and it’s all research that’s out there to look at, lots of the studies showed that people regained 50-70% of the weight they had lost within 1 year of stopping the medication, one study actually showed that 19% of people regained ALL of the weight they had lost, and the rate you gain it back after stopping the medication is quicker than if you had made behavioural/diet changes.

The injections look like the winner short term but long term making better choices, habits, building a healthier lifestyle for yourself reaps rewards.

You have obviously no idea how these WLI work !! They aren’t made of fairy dust and sprinkles !!
They control blood sugar and in the. Are of Mountjaro also regulate the hunger hormone released in the stomach..

They are not a ‘vanity drug’ !! Obesity KILLS PEOPLE !! .

Ag 8 stone heavier I was on :
Blood pressure medication
Type 2 diabetes medication (metformin)
statins
6 monthly steroid injections in my knees
Vit D
Had severe IBS to the extent I had to work from home in the morning.

Now take no drugs.
BP is healthy
Cholesterol is in the good zone
pain in knees is gone
No longer diabetic.

I MAINTAIN on NHS prescription of MJ.. and haven’t wavered by 500g in 16 months. I save the MHS a fortune due to this miracle drug. So please stop spouting bollox !

Obesity causes strokes, heart disease, joint problems, and all the assorted horrors that go with diabetes .Including premature death. I did this for my health. Yes being a size 8 is fabulous but doesn’t compare to the realistic chance of seeing my GC into adulthood.

i have done the diet and exercise route . Even lost 5 stone at one point only to put 8 back on .. which is evidenced in EVERY STUDY into obesity you can find.

Notthatgameagain · 13/10/2025 21:47

This thread has took such a turn. There are 2 different conversations going on here !! And people are getting very defensive.

  1. Yes losing weight via diet and exercise is the healthier way to lose weight. There is absolutely no denying it.
  2. Losing weight can be very hard for some people. WLI can be and is a medication that works and will save the NHS money by saving on other issues that obesity would cause.
  3. Losing weight via wli can mean it can pile back on if stopped (not always) and use of wli can cause other medical problems that would not be an issue via traditional weight loss methods.
All of these statements can be true, they are not mutually exclusive. However the OP is doing well losing weight on her own so 100% she should carry on and not feel sad about the journeys of her family and friends. Good job OP, just focus on yourself and congrats on the loss.

Please don’t take offence.
I’ve attached what Google says. But also I’ve seen it, as I said in my friend but there was a thread on here not long ago about someone gaining back the majority of the weight they lost.

Why do you think there is such a thing as a maintenance dose?

@NoIdontWantNoscrub is completely right.

particularly those who ‘found it easy’, you have to change your lifestyle whilst the food noise is off.

MushMonster · 14/10/2025 06:59

Keep going your way OP. That is the healthy way and a lifestyle change to get back into a healthy routine that works for the after baby body. I found that my self after pregnancy was not the same as before. I started to gain weight much easier than pre-baby.
If you can go for longer walks with the baby, that will help.

Oh poppycock. I've been off since end of December and I'm half a stone lighter than when I stopped.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 14/10/2025 07:08

You’ve been working at your weight for about 6 months and have done well, but you’ve found it hard going and a bit miserable.

Chances are, as they qualify, they’ve been working at it for years and felt a bit miserable all that time.

I lost 5.5stone with Slimming world 5 years ago. I lost 3 stone with weight watchers about 30 years ago. I lost 3 stone on low carb about 15 years ago.

For 35 years I’ve been either miserable and working hard at getting weight off, or miserable as weight slowly creeps back on.

People on the WLI have had enough miserable dieting experience to have earned them an easier ride for a while.

Good for you, again, the stats and studies speak for themselves in that this is not the case for many though :)

Is it ok and safe to stay on the jabs for life?
