Unresolved car accident claim

Need some advice on this. I had a couple of minor prangs last year. When I renewed my car insurance late last year ( about 6 mo ths after the second accident) the firat one had been resolved and the other not. Apparently not unusual.

So I have made some enquiries while trying to renew my insurance this year and to cut a long story short the second accident is still not resolved. I don't know why. How will this affect my new premium? It was a fairly straightforward situation so im confused why it is still unresolved some 16 months later.

When I went to my brokers they knew of the first accident and not the second, but when I went to the actual insurers they could tell me about both.

You need to ring the insurance company you were with at the time of the accident and talk to them.

In terms of your new premium it’ll go down as an open claim/fault claim until resolved and then you ring your new insurer once it’s sorted and they may give you a slight refund if it’s deemed a non-fault accident.

I had an accident years ago, very straightforward liability, and it took 8 months to sort out. I had to renew my insurance before it was sorted. It was easier as I stayed with the same insurance company. Basically it pushed my premium up, but once it was settled I got a refund.

I scratched someone's bumper and that claim came to £7000 but I regularly drive past that car. It took a year, was settled at 7k but the car has never been repaired. So weird. I have no idea how things work behind the scenes.

Thank you thisishowloween. When I phoned the insurance company they had difficulty getting through to claims so just gave me the number for them. I also had issues. Gave up. I suppose I cant understand why, if they have already paid out the money, why it is still unresolved despite being a fairly insignificant incident. The broker though suggested as it is unresolved it could put my premium up once resolved.
The company I have been with were made aware of both incidents when trying to renew last year and this year have offered a renewal. It is higher ( by about £50 despite no change of any kind and also the usual yearly depreciation of my car value. This was why I was looking around for other offers so I could go back to them to haggle a bit.

It all seems like a con. The second accident in particular was very minor and it appears to have been twice the cost of the first prang. No wonder insurance premiums are soaring.
