DD bras?

Why do they exist? Why do we go A, B, C, D, DD, E? Then F and FF? There must be reasons I just haven’t heard - do you know?

Well i wore a D cup for goodness knows how many years. Then last year started buying DD and they are a much better fit for me and more comfortable.
So I'm very glad they do exist.

I don’t think the question is why does the size exist but what the daft naming style. That and AA is smaller than A, rather than bigger like allthe other double letters.

It's probably something stupid like not wanting those with bigger boobs to be embarrassed by going further through the alphabet.

Only advice I’ve got is to measure correctly and use the bra or bust calculator, can be found online!
Also, trust the process
I used to wear a D cup I measured correctly and now I wear a G cup, but smaller back measurement, and my boobs look so much better and feel better especially after taking off my bra, they are no longer painful or aching

I have bigger boobs, I'm and E and I am not embarrassed why should I be.

I believe bra sizes were traditionally A-D then as demands changed manufacturers created a DD for those where a D was too small. Then as times have moved on the demand for bigger sizes has led to the creation of more letters.

Me too and I'm not embarrassed either, but someone in marketing years ago possibly thought that? Are you always spoiling for a fight? I said it was probably something stupid.

But why is AA smaller than A when DD is bigger than D and FF is bigger than F?!

I wouldn't say I was spoiling for a fight.
Your post sounded like we should be embarrassed that's all.

Because initially it was ABC. Cup sizes didn’t really exist at the beginning of bras, over time as bras became more structured in style the ABC system came in. D was added later, then DD, as was AA. DD was fuller than D, AA had to be smaller than A as A is obviously the first letter.
Extended cup sizes are really very recent, as are small back sizes. In America they jump from DD to DDD as that was their largest for a while. In France they went from D to E along with most of Europe. There is no universal system. Bra sizes of 32, 34 etc started out before the cup size system, so that was the measurement at the fuller part, the band part would be four to five inches smaller, this was to fit an average breast size for that measurement, so the 34” bra also had a cup roughly average for most women who measured 34” around the bust. As cup sizes came in, the band stayed around five inches smaller, and it has stayed this way in many other countries. In the UK, along with dress sizes getting gradually bigger (eg a size 10 forty years ago was a modern size 4-6), bra bands have got larger too. I have the first UK 30 band bra here somewhere, from Fantasie in the 90s, it is like a modern 28 or even 26. Fantasie brought in a 28 later but now the 28 is what the original 30 was, so a true size 28, for a woman measuring around 25” at the ribs, doesn’t exist in their range now.
Not all brands have made their bands more generous, so it gets confusing, and the under bust = band size doesn’t work for every bra for this reason. Also it doesn’t work as well for very thin women as tighter bands can be really uncomfortable for them.
Bras are like shoes really, your size will vary slightly from brand to brand, and some brands won’t fit at all, as their cup shape won’t work for you.
