Anyone had their bath taken out in favour of a shower?

We have a tiny bathroom... its literally a square...as you look in...
Sink directly in front
Toilet to left
Bath to the right

Thinking of taking bath out and having a walk in shower.

We love having showers when in hotels or on holiday. Love having a bath at home in the cooler weather for a long soak.

Dont really want an overshower.

Will we regret it taking our bath out. 😵‍💫

We took our only bath out in favour of a big walk in shower. Much better for us.

Zephyrcrossing · 12/10/2025 18:47

We have a comparatively small bathroom as well.
We have a bathtub with shower.
In 13 years since we had it done over no one has taken a bath, ever.
I used to think I would prefer a bath to a shower but a shower is all that we need.
If you have or will be having young children in the home a bath is usually preferable.
It's also preferable to have one when selling your home so that's something to consider.
If you really enjoy and look forward to a soak in the tub with a book or whatever, then I would think you might miss having one, but you'll get used to it.

I wouldn’t buy a house with just a shower ( unless I can put one in and the price reflects that)

Doing this right now. Not interested in what estate agents might think about potential purchasers -this is my house for me to live my life in right now.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/10/2025 18:50

I went the other way and removed a manky walk in shower in favour of a shower- over- bath combo.

It has proved very useful in situations I couldn't have imagined.

My sister in law completely regrets getting rid of her bath for a large shower, her son used to go to his grandmas for one, he missed it so much. We have a bath with a shower screen and shower with mixer taps. It was installed in 2018 and up till now I haven’t had a shower, I love a bath. All I use the shower head for is to wash my hair 🤗

NetZeroZealot · 12/10/2025 18:52

We did this in the guest ensuite. No regrets.

We have 2 other baths though, only one of which is used.

We took out the bath before we moved in and it was fine for just myself and hubby but then the kids were born and I wished we had kept it in as it would be easier to bathe them. Also would have been nice to have a bubble bath during pregnancy and post partum. But honestly if we didn't have kids I wouldn't even miss the bathtub.

HarryBlackberry1 · 12/10/2025 19:03

I have recently done this and I absolutely do not regret getting rid of the bath. We never used it, and we have a tiny bathroom. Now we have a beautiful big walk in shower. Go for it!

crazytiredrn · 12/10/2025 19:07

I’ve had my bathroom re fitted this year and had the same dilemma as you. The bathroom is tiny so can’t have both. In the end I went with a walk in shower and it’s the best thing I’ve done in the house. I love it!

H202too · 12/10/2025 19:08

Yes don't miss it at all. But I don't intend on selling anytime soon. Actually I bought it like this.

I think only meed a bath if have young kids.

FastFood · 12/10/2025 19:09

I'm doing it tomorrow! Tiny bathroom, I never ever take bath (been living in that flat for 5 years and I think I tried twice and ended up leaving after 5 mins).

I don't care about reselling, I'm the one living in the flat now, and my flat isn't at all suitable for a family anyway.

Boogiemam · 12/10/2025 19:11

So we bought our house with no bath. A few years later with a child it's a nightmare. I'd kill for a bath, but also finances don't stretch that far ATM so I can't see us getting one soon.

softlyfallsthesnow · 12/10/2025 19:18

Very normal in many parts of Europe and they survive.
We did this about 6 years ago and no regrets. Lovely big walk in shower. No comparison with shower over bath which is a less good compromise.

Eggybreadwithnuts · 12/10/2025 19:18

UPDATE
Not selling house. Staying put.
Kids grown up they would love a shower!
Am thinking long shower tray type thing where bath is
Also thinking ahead, our old age 😊
It's literally a teeny tiny square bathroom so wont give us more space, I just think it will make it eaiser for us in a few years

My parents did this about 10 years ago and it still looks great and they’ve never regretted doing it.

Bunnycat101 · 12/10/2025 19:25

In those circumstances I’d do the walk in shower. We have one of each (one room with walk-in and one room with a bath and over shower). The walk-in gets used the most by me and my husband and the bath my children. Given yours are grown up and you have no intention of moving I’d absolutely do what works better for your circumstances.

Walk-in is a dream to clean and is just very easy. There are lots of wet room type kits available now where you can fit a tray under tiles so you can just have tiles- definitely something to think about if your space is small.

FancyCatSlave · 12/10/2025 19:28

Current house only has a shower, when we had a bath in last house it was only used by DD. She would like one but she is also used to showers now and she’s 6 so not many years of bath play left.

I’d be very put off a house with no shower at all as couldn’t move in if there wasn’t one, only a bath would drive me mental. But I’m not bothered by no bath.

FishPie2 · 12/10/2025 19:35

Took the bath out of our family bathroom to accommodate a wet room for my husband. He used it maybe 6 times then went into care. Cost me 10K and I have not been in it since as it is too big and all that water drives me mad having to squeegy it and then dry it.
I shower in the ensuite and wish I still had a bath to use but it would cost me a few grand to put it back.

ButterPiesAreGreat · 12/10/2025 19:38

We did this last year. DC are young adults now and they were coming in our room to use the shower in the en-suite. The shower tray fits exactly where the bath was so it wouldn’t be expensive to refit a bath. The bath was smallish anyway so was not particularly relaxing for a long soak.

If we hadn’t changed it, we would have put an electric shower in anyway, which needed some electrical work as we only had a mixer tap affair in before.

Never regretted it at all. The guy that did the work says he often gets asked to do that sort of thing so while it may not be attractive to some, it is to others.

Soontobe60 · 12/10/2025 19:39

I have a tiny bathroom and we had the bath taken out and a quadrant shower fitted. Absolutely no regrets! If ever I stay anywhere where there’s a bath, I always get excited and look forward to a good soak but in reality I lie in it for 5 minutes, get bored then jump into the shower to rinse off.

BestIsWest · 12/10/2025 19:45

We did it earlier this year. No regrets so far.
I loved a soak in the bath with a book when I was younger but dodgy knees made it tricky getting out. Now I have a lovely long shower then wrap myself in towels and lie on the bed reading instead.

Ours gave us lots more space as I also moved everything.

Hopefully the before and after is obvious 😂

I'm thinking of doing this, would anyone be kind and share their rough costs for bath out, shower tray in and some tiling to match in? Not looking for anything fancy and I have the shower over the bath currently.
I'm in the south. Thank you.
