Belgian coastal towns- insider info needed

Planning a quick trip to Belgium over half term. Itinerary will include the delightfully named Plopsaland. Going to spend 3 nights away.

There are several small towns close by including De Panne, Veurne, Niewport. Is anyone familiar with the area and can recommend which has most to offer. Would be good to have a choice of restaurants and cafes and a bit of atmosphere in the evening.

We don't want to end up in an industrial wasteland....have done that before!

Not sure if this is close by your terms but we stayed at De Haan a few years ago (45m drive away says Google maps) and that is a lovely coastal town, immaculately clean, beautiful beach, sand dunes, lots of cute cafes.

I second De Haan - or for life Ostend is surprisingly nice and is a bit more "all year" Nieuwport / De Pann are mostly highrise / holiday flats along the coast. The coastal tram runs from one end to the other. My dd works every summer at Koksidje / St Idelsbald and loves it - not sure what it would be like in October.l Dunkirk is also quite a nice town - good museum about the evacuation. Or Ypres might be another possibility. Nice Grote Markt there, good museum and the Menin Gate - plus all the WWI sites in the near vicinity. I live in Belgium....

Not sure when UK HT is but 1st Nov is a public holiday and stuff might be closed - especially museums etc.

Weve been to plopsaland. Its actually really good. Bellewaerde is good too.

We like De Panne, loads of decent restaurants along the main promenade, lovely beach, and lots of things for the small kids to do apart from the beach like bike hire, bouncy castles etc. However, we've only been in the spring months in very good weather, I don't know what it would be like out of season.

We've stayed in De Panne a few times. It's a good base. You can easily get to Brugge and Ghent for day trips. Great beach and promenade. Food France cheaper for moules frites though.

Thank you - this is all really helpful.

Have stayed in de Haan before, agree it's a lovely spot but keen to try somewhere new for this trip.

We have been to Plopsaland. It was a long time ago but we enjoyed it. We have stayed in Nieuwpoort-an-See which is very built up with high rise buildings - the beach was nice and sandy though. Nieuwpoort itself is a bit more inland and very nice.

We went to Oostduinkerke in the summer and stayed in the sunpark and also to Plopsaland. Had a lovely holiday. I also went to Ypres on a school trip in the summer and that is also lovely - about 45 minutes away. Well worth a visit. I was quite impressed with Belgium actually. Not sure how busy they are during October half term though.
