How often do you take your kids to the park?

Weekly seem likes too much? Every other week? Monthly? My kids aren’t that active…I want them to ride their scooters and bikes but they’re just not interested…

Probably once every couple of weeks but we live way way out in the sticks and have no park overly near us, certainly none we could walk to. My v nearly 4 yo son does ride his bike/scooter around the yard nearly every day though, it’s a battle to get him off them! He’s always been very outdoorsy so if it’s not that, it’s climbing bales or racing the dogs around the fields or whatever.

soundsys · 11/10/2025 14:07

When they were younger pretty much daily! Now at 6, 8 and 10 probably weekly. But we have 3 different parks within a 10 minute walk

GoldBalonz · 11/10/2025 14:09

Depends on the age surely.

At 2/3/4/5/6 it could have been daily and often was during holidays and at weekends.

Ds3 is now 8.5 and he'd get bored with a daily trip to the local park. But we walk for mile, he cycles, skates and scoots for miles, uses a skatepark regularly and we probably end up at a playground once a week now and try and mix it up to avoid boredom.

Most days when my older 2 were little, especially in the summer. It’s free and they’d usually find someone to play with so I could have a minute to myself

The youngest is a baby but on my days off work if it’s not raining I take her to the park. I can’t imagine thinking once a week is too often.

Stormyday34 · 11/10/2025 14:13

I basically live at the park. We live in London so our garden isn’t huge and the kids spend half their lives on the playground. So basically any time they’re not at school!

Seawolves · 11/10/2025 14:14

I'd love to say I take him regularly, I would love for him to be included but the truth is I hardly ever do because parks don't cater for children like him who are totally dependent on their wheelchair.

Jollyjoy · 11/10/2025 14:18

Im surprised with how many are dailies! Possibly your thread title attracts us. We live on the edge of a park and make our school run through it every day, plus dog walks, and go to the playground in it a few times a week after school. Kids love their bikes and also love climbing trees and off trail in the woods. Could you cycle on your school run? Go for a family bike ride? Nature scavenger hunt type thing?

SoozyWoozy5 · 11/10/2025 14:24

Why on earth would you think weekly is too much?!

Dliplop · 11/10/2025 14:31

OP, how old are your kids?
I take 3 yo about 8-10 times a week and 5yo 5 days plus every weekend at least one of our outings is to nature.

Drops to about half of that below a certain temperature.

user2848502016 · 11/10/2025 14:43

Mine are older now so never, but when they were younger there was some kind of outdoor activity every weekend day and usually at least once midweek too

Amethystanddiamonds · 11/10/2025 14:48

Rarely but our village park is covered in dog poo and quite frankly disgusting and neglected. The parish council took everything away during COVID to prevent it being used (swings and ladder access to some of the play equipment included) and have never returned it. The nearest one besides that with decent parking is a 20 minute drive.

youalright · 11/10/2025 14:49

Daily in the summer. Couple of times a week in winter. But our home is about 5 steps from the park. It wouldn't be as often if it wasn't so close

Aww thats actually so sad all kids should get to go to the park. I've seen some parks that have swings for wheelchair users could you write to your mp

Ponderingwindow · 11/10/2025 14:51

when she was little, at most once a week. We had to drive there because we live rurally.

we have a huge garden and we had our own play equipment permanently installed.

Caterina99 · 11/10/2025 14:55

When mine were little and I was a sahm, pretty much every day! We’d meet friends at different playgrounds or just go to our local one to get out of the house.

We go less often now as they have school and various activities (age 10 and 8), but still probably weekly. They play outside in the garden and generally outdoors most days

JetFlight · 11/10/2025 14:56

pretty much every day that wasn’t a school day or something else going on. Not just parks but walks in the woods, bike rides, scooters, football, frisbee, kites anything outdoors.

jill5676 · 11/10/2025 14:57

3-4 times a week - so basically everyday that she's with me and/or her dad. Usually on her 3 nursery days there isn't time, but she spends a lot of time outside in the nursery garden when she's there. We live in a flat so it's vital to get outside!

Dannydevitoiloveyourart · 11/10/2025 15:09

Every day after school and depending on our weekend schedule, once or twice on the weekend but usually for a long stretch (eg 4 hours). Now they are older they prefer to play football, cycle, skateboard over play with playground equipment.

In winter we go less after school- maybe twice a week, as it gets dark too quickly. But we try keep them active in other ways such as skipping ropes and after school sport clubs.

Halcenateraw · 11/10/2025 15:58

We are playground explorers and usually try out different playground across the city in good weather. We're in London and like to get out to different areas - Hyde Park, the Heath, Holland Park, Diana Memorial, Regent's Park Queen Elizabeth etc. There's enough big parks that we can do a different one every week.
In bad weather we don't have outside day trips so often but we usually go to indoor places like museums, galleries and theatre shows, and we'll often spend an hour or two in a nearby playground afterwards. Dcs have extracurriculars after school in the week so too busy on some days for the park, but sometimes there's time to fill and we'll spend half an hour in a park.

RomeoRivers · 11/10/2025 16:13

Hardly ever; the park isn’t my thing, so we have swings and slides in the garden and a plethora of ride on toys. My MIL used to take them most weeks. We walk to and from school/ nursery everyday so they get plenty of exercise.

cillacilla · 11/10/2025 16:15

My daughter is 2 and we will in a flat so we go 2 times a day, used to go 3 times before she went down to one nap but we live a 5 min walk from the park. When we eventually get a house with a garden I imagine it will be less.

BarnacleBeasley · 11/10/2025 16:19

Every weekend for DS1 but basically never with DS2 (aged nearly 2) because he loves the swings so much that however long you let him go on for he still has an epic meltdown when he has to get off, reaching levels of distress that outweigh the pleasure he got from going on it in the first place. So we go to the beach or the woods instead.
