Coverless duvet, should I get one?

Or more specifically will it fit in my washing machine?
I know nobody can give me an absolute answer for that but please humour me 🙂
So I don't know the drum capacity of my washing machine, it's an older model that was in the house when I moved in. The drum seems kind of average size? Not particularly small but not visibly oversized.
I want a double duvet but a thin on - 4.5 tog probably or maximum 7 tog.
Is it likely to fit in my machine?
Also how quickly do they take to dry if hung indoors after washing? I don't have a tumble dryer and living in Yorkshire the opportunities to hang it outside dry are limited 😄.
Thanks in advance for any relevant info.

I just wash the normal duvet (one of the ikea ones) - I leave it in the cover for the singles (I did consider just dying the duvet as no cover seemed wrong, even though they're washed every couple of weeks), but I split my kingsize up (8kg machine) as otherwise it's a bit tight.

Spun at 1400 they dry hung over the bannister by bedtime.

You could always use one of those big machines they have at garages.

Bought for similar reason, son removes duvet cover in his sleep somehow or at least claims to, not sure how it couldn't ever stay on. And no it does not fit in the bloody washing machine despite reviews assuring me it would. Costs 11 quid in the launderette to wash it. Have washed it 3 times. When I take it the 4th time it will then actually have cost more to wash than it did to buy! Do I just chuck it out and buy a new one at that point or keep going?

I’ve got an 8kg washer that whines and bleeps constantly if I try and just put covers, sheet and pillowcases in.

I don’t think it would cope with a king sized duvet, what happens when the tog goes up

i really don’t trust the petrol stations washers as think they are used by the trade for very dodgy washes. I once used a petrol station vacuum and it was clear it was used for taxi driver clean ups

@Jsowny100% get the flappy corners of the duvet! My daughter is autistic and it has been a brilliant investment as she used to takes so long to get the divert cover just right.

id personally recommend Night Lark if your buying one. I’ve tried the cheaper ones and they don’t wash up as nice, also don’t feel very nice.

Great if it fits in your machine. Mine dries really quickly. Wash, spin and back on the bed by evening.

What tog is it?

@SilverBlue56 fair challenge. They seem to be much more widely popular than that, though, which puzzled me.

Yes, I can get ours dry same day. We have one each! Also I have two sets so no need to put them straight back.

TBH I hated changing the duvet cover so much. Anything to get out of it.

Ours are 10 tog double, fine all year round as they are not heavy and go in the 9kg machine fine one at a time. As we have one each there is no fighting over it and it's cosy in winter as you can wrap it round yourself.

Maybe buy two thin ones that can fit in the machine rather than one big? One of my sons is the same, it's maddening!
