I had one of the worst migraines of my life last night

As the title says, last night was awful 😢

I went to bed and I could feel it coming on but thought it’ll probably pass. I also didn’t want to take a sumatriptan tablet (which I normally take for my migraines) because I had already taken one yesterday afternoon when I had a headache / migraine coming on.

I woke up a few hours later around 1.30am and honestly it felt like my head was going to explode. I took a sumatriptan and 2 ibuprofen. Normally this combo works a treat for me but it wasn’t helping, in fact it was getting worse. I was just lying in agony, a pillow squished over my head, desperately trying to relieve the pressure.

In my desperation about 1.5 hours later I took another sumatriptan in the hope it might do something. Nope, so about 30 mins later I took 2 paracetemol. I then must have drifted off. Woke up this morning and the intense throbbing has gone but it feels like the general migraine / headache is lingering around. I am exhausted. And I have no idea what triggered it and why my usual medication wasn’t working.

Does anyone have any tips / recommendations on what to do in these situations? I was reading MN last night at 3am and people were saying a can of full fat coke?!

Im not surprised you're still feeing rough after that, OP. The more severe the attack is the longer the recovery will be. I've found aspirin helps with the fog feeling more than anything else, and eating regularly even though I may not feel hungry.
I am now in the recovery phase after a 48 hour migraine and sumatriptan has never worked for me, so all I can do is work really hard on prevention.
Hope you feel better soon

Thanks so much everyone. I started feeling better this afternoon after taking more ibuprofen this morning.

Although my head still feels fragile - and if I move my head side to side I can sort of feel pressure. Feel like it’s still lingering a bit. Hopefully a good nights sleep will help.

When I started to feel better this afternoon my head was “clicking” loads when I moved it side to side - like it was releasing some sort of pressure? It was really weird, never had that before.

I didn’t realise you could take multiple sumatriptans, I thought they recommended against that.

Would a decongestant help? Like sudofed or whatever the active ingredient is in that. It sounds like it may have a bit of sinusitis if you have pressure. The active ingredient is pseudophedrine hydrochloride and you can but unbranded tablets of it OTC in the chemist. Also try a nasal rinse daily like Neilmed as a preventative. Inhaling menthol crystals is also incredible. You can get them OTC in the chemist and you only need one crystal a time as so strong, so one pot is a lifetimes worth. I take an immune suppressant so get these things a lot. Hope you feel better.
