Can we talk about conkers?

There are sooooo many of them this year, the paths were covered in them this morning. And they are absolutely huge! I love conkers, can't resist picking one or two up and carrying them around. So tactile and soothing.

I love them and always haave a little collection on my shelf in the hall but so far I have only found a couple this year. I think someone is beating me to my usual spots

I am so shocked to see this thread because only yesterday I was saying to my partner how sad it made me that there are so many conkers available on the roads! I remember being little and having to try and secure the first swoop because they’d all be gone if you left it too long, and it made me unnaturally upset because children clearly don't care about them anymore 😭 (I’m three months postnatal so I don’t think I’m normally this much of an emotional drama queen 😂). Anyway, I took my 20 month old son out and we collected bloody loads of them and he’s had loads of fun counting them and putting them in very neat lines (sadly he’s a bit too young for conker fights at the moment!), so the purpose of my waffling reply is to say I’m very grateful to have a relevant space to share all these thoughts!!

I love them too. They are so beautifully shiny and glossy. They always make me feel happy, perhaps because they remind me of being a child.

And yes there are masses of them around this year. Acorns too. The roads and pavements are covered in them and I can hardly drive anywhere at the moment without a few falling out of trees and hitting the car. One hit me on the head when I was walking a couple of days ago. It was surprisingly painful and reminded me of Chicken Licken!

I like finding one in its casing and gently treading on.it to.popthe nut out.

Oh I know exactly that feeling you’re experiencing. It’s wonderful

We have bowls of them at home. Eventually I’ll take them outside, a few at a time, and leave them on a wall and the squirrel 🐿️ will clear them for me.

Aww, @Twobabiesandapup,don't apologise I remember crying at a baby sock someone lost on my street when my last one was a baby. Bloody hormones. But, take joy in me seeing at least 4 kids with bulging carrier bags and rosy cheeks and big smiles yesterday.
