Help with scalp

I suffer with mild psoriasis, mainly on my neck/hair line, but recently my scalp has been so itchy.

I haven't changed my shampoo/ conditioner or hair products, so im assuming it's connected to psoriasis, but I obviously can't be sure.

Any ideas what I can use on my scalp/hair that will stop this itch?

( No....I don't have nits 😂)

There’s been a few threads recently about a change in formulations causing reactions. It might be worth checking out before you decide it’s down to psoriasis.

I use moo goo products for my sensitive scalp and find them very soothing.

I have same. For me, washing my hair every 2nd or 3rd day helps.

I tend to wash my hair every other day.

Always blow dry it, as I find leaving it wet can irritate my psoriasis more

If you live in a hard water area then installing a water softening shower head attachment might help.

Polytar. I've had scalp psoriasis for more than 40 years and the only product that controls it completly is coal tar shampoo with a minimum of 4% coal tar.

I saw so many doctors and skin specialists in my 20s and despite several treatments nothing controlled it. A nurse friend one day told me about coal tar shampoo and I never looked back.....until last year.

I live in Australia and has been impossible to find coal tar shampoos for almost a year now. Several scalp cleansers advertise they are good for psoriasis but are not. Their active component is salicylic acid which does nothing for psoriasis. I now get Polytar from the UK, it costs me a bomb in postage but can't be helped.

Depending how bad your flare up is it will take from 3 weeks to 2 months to clear your scalp using it every 2 days/3 times a week. Once your scalp is clear, you can use it once a week. You don't need oils or other products.

Use steroid gel dovobet. The only thing that’s ever got rid of my scalp psoriasis for up to 1 month at a time.

Polytar shampoo is the holy grail. Before oil your scalp and then after 12 hours (or how ever long you can manage) drag a fine tooth comb through your hair scraping off the plaques. Then shampoo really rubbing the lather into your scalp and leaving the shampoo on for longer than you would normal shampoo. I have recently cleared (as much as it not being sore, itchy and flaky) my scalp psoriasis after suffering for 20 years either it using this method, which a lovely dermatologist told me about. If you want though I can send you a few hundred pounds worth of nizoral, kerastase and Vichy stuff to try beforehand if you don’t want to go down the Polytar route!
