Carer supper payment and work?

Is anyone who claims this and works able to tell me what happens if you temporarily earn over the weekly allowance? Do I need to tell them or do they get notified? If I work extra hours does the claim need to close and a new claim made once I go back to usual weekly hours or cannot continue and no payment made for the weeks I work extra?

You can be fined if you go over by a penny in a single salary period. If you’re pay if close to the limit it is not an easy benefit to manage

Fined? So there is no system for doing an extra few hours occasionally? Seems ridiculous. Does this mean to work extra I would have to end a claim then make a new one after?

Just bumping in case anyone else knows anything. The idea of being fined for working an extra few hours is scary. I probably won’t do it because it would be a big hassle to end a claim and make a new one if that’s what you have to do

You need to inform the dwp if there are any changes to your circumstances.

Yes I am aware of this, although it is Scottish social security not the DWP. I’m not asking if I can work and not tell them. I’m asking if I have to close my claim if I wanted to work extra occasionally or if there is any procedure.

They average it. An occasional amount over won't hurt as long as you're generally under, but if you normally earn right on the limit, then going over will be a problem.

If you work

To get Carer Support Payment, you cannot earn more than £151 a week after tax, National Insurance and expenses.

Thank you so much for this. I did try to look but struggled to find what I needed as I’m not very able. This is absolutely perfect and I wouldn’t need to close the claim or be fined!!! Not sure what that poster was about tbh. I think trying to scare me. Thank you again, this is exactly what I needed!
